View Full Version : Before I crawl around in my dirty crawlspace...

... I want to make sure this is going to work. I'm fairly certain it will, but I figured I'd ask. I want to run component out of my HR20-700 (currently in living room) through the crawlspace into my kitchen and terminate it on one of my kitchen walls (exterior house wall.)

What I'm hoping to accomplish, of course, would be to "mirror" from my living room into my kitchen on a small 19" LCD. It's my understanding that all of the outputs on the HR20-700 are "hot," so pushing the signal doesn't sound like a problem.

Anyone care to lend a wanna-be installer a little advice before getting started? Anyone forsee any problems? I was planning on getting a 50ft 5 RCA Component run along with a 5 RCA component wall plate - coupler type from monoprice. Is running HDMI easier? I know I'd have one end instead of 5, but does that make the hole through the floor bigger? Is it easier/harder to terminate and get up through the wall?

Obviously, I would hook up that 50' cable to the tv on top of the floor and be sure it does not have any video issues with that length.

I see your in NC like me with that said even in this time of year I'd be more concerned what spiders are under your house with you as you crawl under there. I had a run in last week while under mine running an ethernet cable to my H21 in my bedroom!!!

The exterior walls could (should) have insulation in them. If at all possible do the wall plate / box in an interior wall...just the other side of a wall angle.

Also you can use a modulator to connect the component output to coax and run coax (rg6) in the crawl space that way. If you have an OTA run to the first TV this would pass it on.

I used a wireless sender once.........eliminated a tough wall fish........that worked sort of ok. It was highly directional and some interior wall stuff messed it up.

I can always tell how the day is going to go when I ask where the entrance to the crawl space is. If the owner asks if you are afraid of snakes that is a bad thing.

50' is no big deal for a component connection, but it's always best to test the cable first; it's possible to get a bad one.

This is very do-able, and there are even wallplates available for component connections (5 color-coded RCA jacks).
