Here is the technical:

Dish: DIRECTV AU9-SL3-SWM
Recvrs: HR-22-100 & R16-300
Zipcode:28768

About 8 days ago, I went from a 2 R16 SD setup to the new install by DTV. All went well until my NFLST this past weekend, giving up a "searching for signal" , when I started to watch my recording "in progress". Not happy, though the way the Skins are playing I was not missing much. Anyway, after a VERY long affair with DTV (1.5hrs) they had me switch the inputs, problem solved. I thought.

Wednesday, we tried to record on 281, "searching" again. I switched lines and problem solved. OK, not wanting to search anymore I called in and DTV said it sounds like a tuner problem. Based on T1 reading 98% and T2 reading 42% when on channel 281. On my local channel I get T1 at 98% and T2 at 95%.

My R16 is fine, good numbers.

One thing, I need to mention. he ran 2 "dual" lines off the dish. They were new. I had 2 old single lines running to the HD location, he did not change those. The lines running to the R16 were newer "dual" lines and he did not change them out either. He appeared to replace my old multiswitch with a 4 port ground block.

I think that is all I can give you.

They are coming Saturday to "fix" , it sounds more wiring/alignment to me but all the HD is new so I am asking for some opinions so as not to get railroaded by repair tech. The installer appeared very good/knowledgeable and hope he returns but I'd like enough background so I have an idea if his assessment is not right.

Thanks in advance,

Dave

Since you have a SWM, you should only have one cable plugged into the DVR to the "Tuner 1" port and nothing on "Tuner 2". Since you only have two receivers and would then be using only two of the four ports on the splitter, the other two unused outputs need to be terminated. To make things simpler, I'd probably disconnect the two unused feeds at the splitter and install terminators there, although they could go inside the house at the ends of those unused runs of cable.

I don't think he actually has a SWM LNB. Anyway, tuner 2 problems are more common than they should be, and usually require a replacement receiver.

He ran 4 lines off the dish. I assumed just to match the 4 previous lines? I know the SWM worked on my R16 as I tried it after I replaced my R15. As there were 2 lines already there for the R16 I continued to use them both. Again, I just assumed that the installer used 4 lines to balance it out.

How many coaxial cables are plugged into your HR22?

I'm thinking you need a replacement receiver.

Dish has 4 cables coming off it. There are 2 cables into the HR22 and 2 on the R16.

Ok, that's NOT a SWM. One thing you might try before the tech comes Saturday is to re-run satellite setup. When you do this, select a dish/LNB type that is different than what you have, then commit that, then re-run it again and change it back to the right setting. Sometimes this helps "wake-up" a tuner that's acting flaky.

I'll give it a try. Thanks.

No change, guess I'll see how the installer does. Thanks to those who tried to help.

Last update, installer came and found 1 of the 4 ports on the LNB gone bad. Problem solved.

Good to hear it was easily resolved!
