I saw on my friends HR-21(I believe) that he could hit the up arrow button and a mini guide with his favorite channels would pop-up. I have an HR-22 and I was wondering how I can enable that feature? Any ideas?

The pop-up shows 9 of your favorite channels for quick access.

As soon as they push down the newest version of the software to your box, you will have it. They are currently doing a staggerad push of the newest software out. Look for it in the next few days.

Hmm, I thought hitting one of the colored buttons brought up a mini guide.

The blue button brings up the mini guide which is a single channel list that you can scroll. The OP is actually referring to the new feature that is being added called Quick Tune. Or at least I think that's what it's called.

This isn't a mini guide. It doesn't show you what's on each of the 9 channels. Just gives you a different way to change to those channels. For some people, it works great and they use it a lot. Others don't need it for the way they watch TV. to each his own.

Yes, the blue button will bring up a single channel program guide. With the new software now being pushed, if you push the UP arrow button, you'll be able to program up to 9 of your favorite channels to jump to simply by highlighting and then selecting them. It saves from having to push in the actual channel numbers. My wife loves it since she can't remember the channel numbers. The blue button also still works to bring up a single channel program guide.

Right, this is called "Quick Tune" and those of us that used to have ancient Hughes (and maybe Sony) receivers from years ago remember this feature well. It's a great new addition.

I still have an "Ancient" Hughes, well it's actually a Mitsubishi, but same thing working on the TV in my garage.

Yep, I retired my Hughes E-86 just last year. I've hung on to it though since it's one of the few that will work as an OTA HD tuner without being active on a DirecTV account or connected to the sat lines.

Yes after reading the sticky thread I realized this is the "Quick Tune" feature. It is absolutely outstanding feature and I can not wait for them to push it too everyone.

I just switched to DirectTV last week from Time Warner Cable. I am loving every second of DirectTV and I don't think I will ever give cable a try again!

That's what my wife says.

(Hughes being my last name).

We still have an old Hughes HIRD B2 in the bedroom. The feature is called Turbo Tune and pushing Select activates it. Seems to be a popular thing with the ladies, my wife loves it. (What, they have other things on their mind besides memorizing channels?).

On the old Turbo Tune you can move the cursor around and the current program displays at the top of the grid. Sounds like Quick Tune doesn't do this? (I haven't set mine up yet. I know, lazy ####).

This old Hughes box still has my Los Angeles locals on 938-946. When you land on a local like KTLA the Info just reads "Local Channel." Takes about a minute for the info to load. Quite lame.

I'm happy to see this on the new receivers. My parents have the old Sony (SD, legacy) receivers, which originally had this feature years ago... the advantage (still) with them is that they will also list the currently airing program when you highlight each of the 9 channels.

I agree that the current program title needs to be displayed. Sunday Ticket is useless without it. I used turbo tune on the Hughes all the time for ST.

Yes after reading the sticky thread I realized this is the "Quick Tune" feature. It is absolutely outstanding feature...It might have been "outstanding" in the era before DVRs. I like the feature, but do so little live viewing that it really doesn't make much difference. About 95% of what I watch is pre-recorded. Bottom line, DVR capability mostly obviates the need for such a feature. I guess it is nice for live sports. After I put the news channels into it I couldn't think of anything to put in the other 5 holes that I might want to browse casually. And once I did, I realized that the "news mix" did much the same thing, only with live video and audio.

And I guess it really isn't that new of a feature. I bought a Sony XBR in 1993 that had 9-channel PIP. It was really cool on the showroom floor, but I probably used it a grand total of twice in the 10 years after I got it home.

I think it is cool and hope they add "pages" to it so you can add more channels.

It used to be called "Turbo Tune"

Our 20-100 got this feature this past week. I'm hoping our 20-700 gets it soon.

My wife and I loved this option. We still use 2 E86's for OTA only, with 2 other as backups.

I noticed that QuickTune doesn't work on the NFLST game mix channel.

Best use I've read from another poster was:

*Tune to the sd Wx Chan 362
*add it to the QT and
*it becomes a fast way to still show the SD ver. of the weather channel for the locals at the 8's....

QuickTune can't work when an interactive application is loaded. The application needs to have access to the ^ button.
