We must have the second dumbest legislature in the nation.(Next to California)

The proposal would make subscription services provided by satellite television providers taxed at 5 percent.

We already have the highest property tax in the nation and now this :(

Hey Bogi, I didnt know you were from Connecticut. :D

The way I look at it is while I hate paying anything more it is cheaper then cable which plays 6% tax PLUS high franchise fees. :)

When you look at it that way 5% is not too bad. :)

We already have every cable tax passed on, so why not this? Not that I'm in favor of any taxes, but if one gets taxed, tarriffed, etc., then why should one be exempt?

"Hey Bogi, I didnt know you were from Connecticut. "

Its a thing I keep in hiding :)

Find your local legislator and email them.

"We already have every cable tax passed on, so why not this? Not that I'm in favor of any taxes, but if one gets taxed, tariffed, etc., then why should one be exempt?"

Cable is different. Satellite is wireless. When a cable company upgrades its poles, it always calls in the Police to assist with traffic and cable is also responsible for the local public broadcast system.

It is no different. All commercial activities may be taxed, both goods and services. MANY services are taxed. It has nothing to do with the impact of the commerce on tax funded government services. I know, I have a CT tax ID.

Well the programming is taxed already, so I don't get how this is not double taxation now? If they want to do this than DTH service providers should be able to mount dishes on the telephone pole and string the wires to peoples residences. Then people in apartment complexes and people with trees unable to get a shot of the southern sky will be able to get service.
If taxing meant dishes could be mounted on telephone poles than states would think twice about passing taxes on satellite services for fear that a whole bag of worms would be opened up.

Yes, but you may thank the Democrats for the spending which screaming ranting hordes they've cultivated will not allow to be reduced at all.

Everyone from Democrat to Republican is sh*tting bricks because there's so many people on the dole in one form or another that if they do not do something, government spending will in a few years bankrupt the government totally.

Problem is, taxing and spending is what got us here. High taxes and lots of spending, followed by tax cuts without spending cuts, then more taxing and more spending, then more tax cuts without spending cuts. Government cannot spend our money to make us prosperous, it can only get out of our way by not taking it from us and instead, they're going to take money we all don't have in this horrendous economy to pay for their abuse of the power of government, abuse they committed to get into and stay in power.

With regard to stringing cable, those right of ways are strictly regulated and would be tantamount to creating another cable system, called overbuilding. That has nothing to do with taxation whatsoever.

I suggest taking this one into Potpourri. You can bash Democrats there.
