When I mounted my dish a few years ago, I spent time making a mount to keep it from being above the roof surface. The mount puts the plane of the face of the dish above clear space and snow falls by it rather than heap up on the roof in front of it.

I thought that would solve most snow issues. Well not quite, wet snow sticks to the dish and worse yet, wet snow kills the signal unlike cold dry snow which has less attenuation.

Thankfully, I can take a broom and reach up and clean the dish face (slush in my face though).

So a tip: keep the face of your dish accessible in you live in the snow belt.

Do a Google for "satellite dish heaters" and you will find a variety of "solutions". Of course, I have no idea how well these work, but you might give it a try.

I installed my first dish on the side of my house 11 years ago and being the small round dish it came in well under the eave. Now I have the gigantic (by comparison) Slimline and wanted it in the same location, so of course now it is right under the dripline coming off the roof. I can avoid most problems by using a roof rake to clean off just above the dish. This prevents ice buildup when the sun melts what is up there. It's also reachable to brush off any heavy snow buildup.

Snow is not a big problem foe me. I speak from experience when I say ice is the enemy.

Slush is my enemy. Snow is typically cold enough to fall off and ice is rarely a problem.

Curt8403 has a good solution with heat tape, but I haven't had time to fully test and implement it here yet.

Merry Christmas!
