Now will I be able to get both Baltimore and DC since I am in the reception range of both?

No. Sorry Cyclone. Unless the law changes, you can only get the channels from your DMA. I have the same situation with Dayton, OH (if it were going to be carried).

BTW this is already being discussed here: http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=14809

See http://ekb.dbstalk.com/19 for a Dish locals coverage map I just threw together.

They should allow subs to get their closest DMA locals available until theirs come out but the locals in their DMA would not like that resulting in them not allowing it.

I think that the subs should be allowed to get their closest DMA instead of NY/LA/etc. distant locals.

I just don't understand why my local Cable TV company (New Channels, wait...AT&T, no...now Comcast) is permitted to retransmit locals from the Pittsburgh PA area AND Wheeling WV/Steubenville OH, but yet Dish wouldn't be permitted to sell me these channels even IF they had them.

Maybe this is something Charlie should bring up with the FCC or whoever is in charge of things like this.

Guys it's pretty clearly written on the SHVIA (Satellite Home Viewers Improvement Act) of 1999. DBS satellite systems can sell local channels ONLY within their own DMAs. The FCC is just regulating and interpreting the law that was handed to them by Bill Clinton and the Republican Congress.

Remember that this is an enabling law, not a limiting law. Before this law it was NOT legal to sell locals within their DMA unless the subscriber qualified for distant networks. If the local was NOT a network (ABC, CBS, NBC od Fox) it could NOT legally be sold AT ALL except for the 5 superstations.
