View Full Version : Slimline 7?
I read on the internet that directv is planning to deploy a 7 lnb dish that can sell all of directv's satelites. I read the reflector will be bigger than the sl5 because it will see 72.5 and 95 along iwth 99 101 103 110 119.

balderdash. 72.5 is for locals only, and is being phased out. 95 is for international, is fussy as all get out and most customers do not need it. 110 and 119 are now redundant. no new equipment will be created for just those two.\

Ah no.
Sorry.
Besides the fact that the lease on the 72.5 slot will be up "soon", it's simply impractical.
In order to see everything from 72.5 to 119, you would need a dish that would be able to see a 46.5 degree arc. The dish would look like a big bowl. Just not going to happen.

Weren't they also going to migrate the international channels on 95 to 110 or 119 when they shutdown the MPEG2 HD on 110 and 119?

Rumored and highly wished for. But as of yet, no real evidence that the internationals will be moving or what will be taking the place of the legacy HD channels.
At the very least there are clear indications that the 72.5 locals will be going away. They are only installing Slimline dishes even for just SD setups. They've mirrored SD channels to spots on 99 or 103 already in some markets. I'm sure it's just a matter of time to go back and upgrade any legacy dishes/receivers for their existing customers before they shut those off.
The slimline 7 comes out right when Windows 7 is released.
