The other day, I rescanned the local channels to capture whatever changes have occurred since first putting the receiver into service. Much to my surprise the local CBS HD feed in San Antonio, which had disappeared a few weeks or months ago, returned with good strength; but, the guide shows a stream of programs in Spanish.
When chosen the station comes in well, in HD and in English, but the guide remains in Spanish.
Any explanations??

Is this OTA or Dish locals. If it is OTA it Sounds to me like the OTA Channel mapping information is not correct at your local station and I would contact them. If it is your Dish HD channel, I would contact dish quality and let them know they have something wrong in their channel mappings.

It's OTA only. The Dish-numbered selection gives the correct information in English.

Well in that case I would suspect something wrong with the configuration of the stream data being sent from the local station. I would suggest contacting the local station and have them check their configuration for this channel. I would suspect something is not configured right. The other possibility is that Dish does not have the mapping correct, but based on your post I think the station is a more likely suspect.

Mystery solved. I phoned the TV station and the Chief Engineer actually called back. Still in shock about that one. He explained that the situation would only exist until February 1st and is caused by their temporarily occupying an actual channel location which belongs to a Spanish language station. The technology is way above my pay grade, but basically it's a function of how the 622 (which he assumed is an RCA Receiver) deals with channel 41-3, which is apparently carrying what we normally receive as Channel 5-1.
I appreciate your response.

It's nice to hear that customer service isn't completely obsolete. Thanks for the update.

Always nice when someone gets back and knows a reason why. Dish for the record is not a RCA receivers. However Dish is using that mapping info and since 41-3 is a Spanish Channel the Dish receiver is seeing that number in the OTA stream configuration data and is then pulling up the Guide information for that channel and using it for the mapping which would explain the why you are seeing Spanish. My guess would be in Feb when it moves to its true home you will see the mapping correct.
As Tulsa said.. Thanks for the update. Very helpful.
