I just received my smw5 lnb and getting ready to go up on the roof in the dark to install it, and I have a few questions before i start!
1. Can the SWS8 splitter be left outside just like the WB68 it will be replacing?
2. The cable im using is rg6 solid copper and has the "ground" cable on it, but what does it hook to on the dish?
3. On the SWS8 splitter one red port says out and the other says in from swm what goes where so i dont burn nothing up?
4. What are the chances i'll get lucky and swap the lnb's and get good signal so i don't have to hook up the acutrac 22 i bought and re-peak the dish? Or is that just wishful thinking?

I agree. Save yourself from a headache and do it during the day.

I agree with the others, but to answer your questions--

1. Yes
2. I recall there is a spare screw on the mount which can be used to tie the messenger wire. It should be attached to the grounding screw on your splitter, along with the ground lead (you do have one, don't you?)
3. The port with the red insulator are power-passing. The "in from SWM" port connects to the cable from the LNB. The other red port goes to the power inserter (a TV can be fed through this line using the other port on the PI).
4. If the dish is secure, it should be possible. Try it and see how the signal strengths turn out.
