My father is about to sign up as a new subscriber -- so he'll qualify for some deals. I was wondering if there is anything I should be thinking about when he does this to get myself into some deals...
Currently, I have a PVR501. I'd certainly like a 508, of course -- or maybe a 6000 so that I can use it with my HDTV.
My Dad -- he doesn't really care what he gets. I'd have to talk him into getting a PVR even.
So -- anyone have any suggestions here? Maybe I should have my dad sign up and get a deal on the 508? Then I could give him my 501 and take his 508 since he won't care anyway. :-) Does Dish actually require that you activate the exact one that they send with a new deal -- or just that you activate something? In other words, if he orders as a new subscriber a PVR508 and a 301 -- but then I give him a 501 to activate instead of the 508 (and therefore take his 508) -- will that work because he ordered two and is activating two? Or will they go "but that isn't the 508 that we sent you"?
He'll need at least 2 receivers -- so I have some room to work. I've got an extra 301 that I'm not using at all... Is there a deal with two 508s cheap as a new subscriber? I could have him order it with two 508s, then swap him my 301 for one of his 508s -- then we both end up good (and I'd just pay the difference to get the 2nd 508 that he paid for).
Does any of that work? Or is there really little I can do here?
Maybe even if I couldn't get one for myself right away, it might be good to have him get two 508s if they do a deal -- then, after a year, I could always swap out his extra 508, I guess. I'd just rather do it now if possible.
So -- if anyone has any suggestions on that -- or knows if Dish even has any new subscriber "two PVR" deals and such, please let me know.
Oh -- or if there is a 508 + 6000 deal for new subscribers that would be worth it for me to have him get so that I could get the 6000 (and give him my spare 301)...
