View Full Version : Y Adapter for 500 Dish with Single LNBF?
The second dish that I am using for my wing slot at 148 is a Dish500 that uses one of the two available mounts on a Y adapter to attach a single DP LNBF. Would changing the Y adapter to a single mount type adapter be worth the effort, therefore centering the LNBF as it should be? My signal strength is not the issue as it is okay, I just want my installation to be correct, look good and the best it can be.
What are your thoughts?

Currently there is no adapter available to use one LNB on a Dish500 and have it be centered. There was talk on one of the chats about producing one a few months ago, but as far as I am aware it is not yet in production. Unless you switch out that dish with an 18" Dish 300, I would leave it alone. I am sure you could "rig" up something to get rid of the Y adapter, but you would have to play with extending the length of the arm to get it to work correctly.
Thanks for the reply. I do have a Dish300 available I could use, would you suggest I use it instead? My thought was the 500 being a larger dish would be better than the 300.

Yes the 500 will give you a slight advantage on signal strength.

Perhaps you could get the square directv lnbf to put on the dish, it may work then.
As usual, Jacob...huh? Oh well, bumped your posting number up one I guess.
Actually I have another idea I am going to try when the weather clears outside. Since I have a spare Dish300, complete with it's mounting brackets, I can mount the 300, use it's existing LNBF bracket that is centered and just change out the actual dish itself to the Dish500 dish. Looks like it would work just fine.
I know this is just messing around for no real reason, just have to be tweaking something or I get nervous.

On the Dish500 it is square without the Y bracket. If you put a Directv lnbf on that in which is square as well then it should work.
If you set the skew on the dish then it should receive the signal from the right angle to where it will reflect more off the middle of the dish rather than on the side of it, am I right on wrong on this?

No, neither idea will work because the LNB arm is not long enough without the Y adapter or using the old 300 arm to properly center the LNB on the larger 20" pan. You would need to rig something up to lengthen the arm and experiment with different lengths. Why bother?
yea, you are probably right. I will just have to think of something else to tweak.
