What are the rules for warranty on  the equipment that Dish provided to receive local broadcasts?

Dish provided a second dish and a SW64 so I could get some stations on 148. If something were to happen to the LNB or sth SW64, is dish required to fix it? Forever? (or at least as long as there are local stations that require the equipment)

Seems like the would have to "at no cost"

I believe you would be covered if you bought the 1.99/month warantee.

I would make them cover a year from the time of installation.

They might try and push back and say your activation date was xyz, but if you push they should give you a year.

A month after our second dish installation the SW64 died. Dish provided free service and a $20 credit on the next bill.

Geronimo and Steve,
Were your sw64s provided by dish at no charge so you could receive all of your local channels?

Seems that if they are required to provide you with equipment to receive your local channels at no charge, they would be required to service it at no charge as well. Otherwise, they could install poor quality equipment which would fail, then charge for service calls and replacement equipment. Seems like that would be counter to the law.

Or do I have my head up my bottom again?

Yes the SW64 was supplied with my second dish, but when the guy came back to replace the SW64 he gave us 2 SW21s again, and replaced the 2 dual LNBs on the Dish500 with a twin. I should have asked for a quad, but there is no way I wanted another 64 so I went with the twin. On top of that the guy also realigned the Dish500 since the top bolt was loose, that was our orginal problem, but eventually we lost the channels on 61.5 too. I felt sorry for the installer on the service call, he was here for over 3 hours figuring everything out, got his van stuck in the snow in my driveway and totally missed his next appointment.

Although they are providing you with free equipment, they don't need to provideyou with a lifetime warranty. I would assume the warranty would be their standard 1 year parts, 90 day in home service on the installation.

The Extended warranty for $1.99 covers ALL Dish purchased equipment forever with a nominal shipping fee.

They will NOT cover any equipment you add to your system that was not purchased through them. Them being an authorized Dish reseller. Ebay or buddy buys are not covered.

That makes sense, Darrell, but when I bought my 501 from Sears, I don't remember anyone ever asking where I got it when I called in to activate it. Do they know, somehow, that it was from an authorized dealer? And if so, how?

The $1.99 warranty covers all DISH branded equipment but does not cover labor and shipping charges.

They are NOT required to replace it for free for life. YOu may want this to be so but it simply is not. Yes I needed a SW64 to recive locals. When it failed therr was a charge.

Geronimo, we are talking about getting it replaced with the Extended Warranty that costs a whopping $1.99/month. With a fully loaded 6000, a 501 and numerous dishes it's well worth the expense.

Some of you are talking about that but I was asked a direct question by the person that started the thread that was somewhat different. Sorry for the confusion.
