There seems to be a bug in the H21-100 (0x4084) firmware over HDMI with the below TV.

This model not work correctly over HDMI on the PANASONIC TH-37PX50U (37" plasma HDTV). The output resolution is 1080i which is supported by the TV and has worked correctly with other directv model boxes.

The issue is as follows. Random lines and interference run through the picture on both HD and SD channels several times a minute. These are usually accompanied by a drop/silence in the sound for several seconds. It acts as if this box is having trouble communicating with this TV. The issue happens several times a minute. If I set the resolution to 480P, then the issue goes away, however the picture is not high-def on that resolution. Signal strength is not the issue (90+ on all five satellites).

Furthurmore, I should point out that I tried swapping the box from a different room which had an (H20-100) and this corrects the issue. I can use the H20-100 box with this PANASONIC TV over HDMI (July firmware H20-100) but I cannot use the newer H21-100 box (0x4084) with this PANASONIC TV. So for the time being I swapped the boxes and they each work correctly on the respective TV/

This is more or less of a bug issue. Something is not working right with the H21-100 connected to the PANASONIC TH-37PX50U TV via HDMI. This post can be moved to another location if it should be posted elsewhere.

If there any suggestions as to the cause of this issue, it would be appreciated as well.

Just went through a problem with my H-23 and the display. I had it connected to my Sony HD thru a HDMI. Turn off the TV or reset the H-23 corrected the problem. It seems the handshake on HDMI has a bug since Firmware Ox4082. Now D* just sent me a replacement unit (H21-100) to fix the problem. That unit never worked from the beginning. I then connected my H-23 with component cables and all of good, just like it use to be.

I'll go back to the HDMI setup when a new software update come along.

I wonder just how many of these isolated issues on HDMI are related to specific sets which have HDMI1.1, HMDI 1.2, or HDM1.3a.....there have been all sorts of other issues tied to the ridiculous changes of HMDI specs over the past year or so...and this may just be one more.
