Outlook Express was dropped with Vista and replaced by Windows Mail. Windows 7 will drop Windows Mail and will include no native mail application. Windows Live Mail will be available for download to use in Windows 7 if you don't have any other application.

There is no need to remove Outlook Express, but if you feel you want to, there are a number of applications out there that will remove it for you. I wouldn't suggest doing it on your own.

In every version of Windows up through XP you could remove OE just by going into the Control Panel, 'Add or Remove Programs', 'Add or Remove Windows Components' and uncheck the option box for OE. I've done it on quite a few computers since I have preferred other e-mail programs, currently Thunderbird. I set up a couple computers for friends before Christmas and IIRC I used that method for Vista also.
