Can someone explain the differance between the SL5 and SL3? are the actual dish's the same size, just a difference in the LNB?
in my RV I have the Motosat SL5, which when it came out last Jan, was needed, when the RV is located in the spotbeam area of our home, (CT) I can of course get my locals.
Now I need a dish, in a different location, to pick up HD but no locals of any kind (but will need the DNS networks) do I need the old round 3LNB, the new SL3, or the SL5......
Thanks
Dan

From what i was told they are the same size but i never looked. THe 5LNB gets signal from the 101, 110, 119, 103, and 99 and with the 3SL it only get signal from the 103, 99, and 101.

the reason for this is that certain market are only going to be using the 99 and 103 for locals and hd and using the 101 for the sd programming.

if i understood your question, you need a dish to get programming like hd but no locals? that can be possible if your locals come off the 119 but if they dont any dish you get will get you locals.

Same dish, different LNB

For the most flexible setup, you'll want the SL5. Depending on how they your RV locals, your want access to the most sats as possible. The SL5 will do that for you, giving you access to 99/101/103/110/119.

guess the way I wrote it was confusing, I have a motorized automatic SL5 already, from Motosat. I need another dish for a guest house, that needs only national HD feeds, no sd or hd locals. so will the SL3 suffice?

Yes, and it will also provide SD nationals and HD plus possibly SD locals.

The SL3 will be sufficient for most locations these days, but there are exceptions.

That is correct. If locals aren't an issue, there is absolutely no difference between the two. All the channels it can display are the same.

**There is the exception of the HD channels that run in the 70's, but they are simulcast on other channels that the SL3 can pick up**
