I will be getting a 508 shipped in a few days and have some questions
First do they still come with two remotes?
Second, can they accept both IR and UHF remote commands? Can i use my second IR universal? A handy thing to have.

As far as I know, you just get one remote and it transmits IR and UHF signals out at the same time.

I took my IR Learning Universal remote setup for a 301 and just learned a few extra PVR buttons and the universal remote is the remote I use 99% of the time for my 508.

They only came with 2 remotes when they first started shipping. Around the time when 501s started to disappear and 508s became more mainstream that's when they stopped including 2 remotes.

I may use my Sony 700 remote in the room with the 508 and use the 508 UHF remote in the bedroom.
Thanks again though. I always gew what I need around her. More than I can say about a lot of other forums.

Sounds like a good plan.

Anyone here with both a 508 and a 501? Do you use a different "code" for one of the remotes so that you don't activate both PVRs at the same time?
I presently have a 501 and a DishPlayer 7200 ... no problem. But I'm planning to replace the 7200 with a 508, and since the 501 is essentially the same unit, I'm wondering how others are doing in the same situation.
Thanks for any tips in that direction ...

I have a 501 and a 508, both in the same room. One of them is set for remote address 8 and the other for remote address 10. No problems with conflicts.

When they were first having the 508 come with two remotes it was because they had a promotion to those customers to where the customers could use the receiver in two rooms. They would still have to watch the same thing in both rooms though.
