I had been a Dish customer and still have my original equipment which is 3 years old. I am thinking of going back to Dish. My questions are:
1. Should I register as a new customer and get new equipment or as a current and have them re-install under the mover program
2. Should I upgrade to the 500 and get the DishPVR 508
3. I would have local service via San Francisco networks. I will be going back and forth to Southern California and plan to bring my equipment with me. Los Angeles doesn't have local service available. Would I still receive San Francisco coverage while in LA area?

maringal, E* policy is to charge a $175 re-sub fee if you left and want to come back. *D has a similar policy. Whether you are D* or E*, come back is better if you switch to the other provider, get free install and new equipment, drop your luggage on EBay. After 2 years, either would love to have you come back.

I believe the re-sub fee is $25 not $175.

A few things:
Regarding locals: if you want to keep your San Fran locals when you move then don't give the new address to Dish. The locals are determined by your zip code. If you set yourself up as credit card autopay then you don't need to worry about when you get your monthly statement. Just let Dish keep mailing it to the old address.
Regarding whether or not to upgrade: definitely. I think Dish will welcome you back and the PVR's are much better than the older receivers. I always feel like I am getting screwed because they have tons of deals for new subs but hose those of us who have been loyal for a long time. Figure out exactly what you want before hand and get your best deal.
If you subscribe to DISH as a new customer don't bring any of your old baggage with you. DISH does check to see if you have been a customer before. Your address, telephone #, credit card etc. must all be new to the computer system. You can beat the system but don't do anything stupid like trying to use an old receiver on your new account. You are better off switching to Directv if you have never had them, they also do a poorer job of checking for previous subscriptions.

I know quite a few people that have come back as a "new subscriber" by using the same address with "Apt. B" and a second phone line or cell phone number. So, it doesn't appear difficult to not be noticed as an old customer...
I mean, if this guy cancelled that long ago -- and wants to sign up new now, I just don't see that he should have to pay any $25 re-sub fee. I'd sign up new and not have an ethical problem with it, I think -- after that amount of time.

John I am not saying he can't become a "NEW" customer again, I am just saying DISH does try not to give discounts if they can rule out a customer. They can charge back the new customer if they discover they were existing customers the contract the customer signs is for "NEW" customers only and DISH tries harder than DirecTV to prevent giving discounts for "NEW" customers.
