View Full Version : Issues
I have a DVR - R16-500 and I notice when I switch channels, and thus tuners, the new channel wont start its buffer until I am on that channel for 10seconds; effectivly losing the first 10 seconds of buffer when i switched the channel.
I also noticed that when I am on live TV, pause and then do a frame by frame, it wont work unless you are a few seconds behind live TV.
Both are quite annoying.
All of the DirecTV branded DVRs (HD and SD) have only one live buffer. Anytime you change channels, the buffer is cleared and re-started on the new channel. You can't do anything that requires backing up in the buffer until it has had a chance to accumulate some buffered program. The behavior you are describing sounds pretty typical.

I understand the issue of single buffer. However, why, when i change the channel, i cant rewind all the way back to the point where the channel was switched, but rather 10+ seconds after?

First the buffer for LIVE video fills up so you can watch the show, then the "live buffer" begins filling. All digital TV systems use buffers which take time to fill before they can be used to produce images. Hence, the delay when changing channels unlike old analog TV/cable which produced a picture instantly when changing channels.

its not a delay of changing channels. Its a delay of the buffer. The channel i am on is being viewed for 10 seconds. At the end of 10 seconds of watching that is where the buffer starts; ie, i cant rewind past that point even though i have been watching for over 10 seconds.
