Hi, My 7200 dishplayer has not been recording regular shows that I have scheduled to record. I have about 5 or so hours of programs that are flagged do not record, so I thought that some shows needed to be deleted. Well, this weekend I was watching live tv and hit the back (rewind) button and it went on and on. It had about 6 hours of that channel in the buffer. I thought the buffer was only supposed to be about half an hour. How can I get some of that buffer time freed up for scheduled programs? I tried leaving the tv tuned to a music channel hoping that would free up the buffer, will that help?

Also, how many hours is typical for recording time on a 7200?

Thanks all.

The DP will buffer as much space as is available on the HD (50x and 721 have a hard limit at 1 hr). With stock dives that is a couple of hours, but if you upgrade to the bigger drives it is ALOT! Space is dynamically assigned. As soon as you switch channels or start to record, the buffer dumps. If you want to clear the buffer, change channels and then go back to the program you want to start buffering. With the DP you cannot grab a show out of the buffer. Only the 50x and 721 will do this for E* service.

A stock 7200 (17.6 GB) should record about 10-12 hrs depending on the program.

As a rule of thumb, upgraded drives should give you about 80% of capacity for time (i.e. 40GB HD X .8 = approx 32 hrs of recording time. YMMV)
