Tech forum:

I scrolled through similar diplexer questions, but nothing quite met my specific situation.

I finally got my system together and installed recently, but ran into a few strange problems. I bought 2 receivers, 1-Hughes E86 HD IRD for main room, and Hughes GAEBOA IRD for the bedroom.

Initially tried to setup run for the E86 as follows: Dish-multiswitch-receiver. Also have off air antenna connected through multiswitch. This receiver has built in diplexer, so no need to split sat/ant signals. With this setup, able to receive my local channels, but as posted in another post, problems getting this receiver to accept a new card. Despite this, excellent signal strength indicators. Then I tried the next setup:

Sat dish-multiswitch-diplexer-IRD(one into sat in one into ant in)..and yes, the correct RG6 to each. With this hookup, signal strength wouldn't register at all. This diplexer was brand new btw. When I take the diplexer out and hookup combined signal from RG6 from multiswitch, good signal and reception for most channels. There is a block of channels in the 0-99 range that aren't my local channels, but local affiliates in other cities(ABC,NBC,FOX), but I don't actually get a picture for these(black). Perhaps related, but perhaps not, there are several channels I should get(ie A&E, MTV) that also are blacked out and cant get.

The last observation may connect to yet another post I have in which the IRD doesn't want to stay set on the optimal transponder I had set, but thought I'd mention anyhow.

Any help would be appreciated, hoping to get things resolved before the wife pulls the plug on my satellite experience. Just so happens some of the non premium channels we're not getting are the ones she watches the most often(of course).

Installation of Directv receivers is free for new customers, why are you messing where you don't seem to have an idea what you are doing? I would suggest you contact DirecTV and see what they will charge to set you up with a service call.

Thanks for your advice your condescending ass. I bought my own equipment because I didn't want to be obligated to a yearly contract thank you. As far as the installation, it turned out to be a small thing that wasn't described well in the owners manual for either the diplexer or the receiver.

For those that may be interested in my mistake so that they themselves don't make it, I fixed things as follows. I was using a Terk diplexer, and for whatever reason, the terrestrial antenna was powered via the RG6 cable from the receiver...but only if it wasn't hooked in line with the diplexer. I assumed that the accessory(not so much accessory as necessary as i found out) piece that connected to the diplexer at the antenna output to the receiver had to be hooked up(I believe this piece allowed power to the t. antenna). I think I had actually hooked it inline like this before, however, the receiver manual was very vague in describing how to access the antenna signal.

Perhaps not so strangely, the problem I was having with receiving other satellite channels(non premium) also fixed with this reconnection.

Sorry Boba if I bored you with my beginner question.
