Finally the Greenville-Washington-New Bern area here in NC got their locals this morning. I currently have 2 dishes, The SideCar whichs of course picks of the national feeds, etc. And the Duel LNB Oval dish.

Am I ok to just remove the Oval dish and throw it away? Once doing that I assume I need to reset my receivers and configure the setup without the Dual LNB Dish.

tell us exactly what your dishes look like and how the wires are connected. i am thinking that maybe you do not need one, but Directv does not install sidecars anymore.... are you sure it is a sidecar

If the coax from your old dish is not connected to anything, you can take it down and toss it. Put a "Free" sign on it and put it out on the curb in front of your house. If it's a shady neighborhood, put a $5 sign on it and put it on the curb. Either way, it will probably be gone the next day.

if it is an oval dish and has 2 lnbs that are the same (with a gap in the middle) offer it to a museam

assuming you have all mpeg4 capable receivers you can disconnect your 72.5 dish with out any problems just make sure to go through sat setup again and tell it that the 72.5 dish isn't connected.

Use it for a plate, with some liver, fava beans and fine Chianti.

If all the SD locals were from the 72.5 dish only the HD locals would be available from 99/103, I think you would still need the 72.5 dish to receive all of the non-network locals in your area. I would surely check before you tore anything out:)

I think that only works if your last name is Lector.

If all of your receivers are H2x/HR2x, then you can ditch the 72.5 dish. If not, then without it, you won't get locals on your older receivers. However, I believe DirecTV will upgrade you to MPEG4 receivers if your SD locals have been moved to MPEG4, as 72.5 is going away. They may not be ready to do that yet, though.

Ok, thanks for the reply's. I disconnected the Dual LNB (72.5) that I was getting for my locals. I left the dish up for now, I just simply unplugged it from the WB68 Multiswitch.

I then reset my receiver and did a "Repeat Guided Setup". It looks like all is well. I got my HD locals just fine, and it deleted the duplicate SD locals that were being displayed.

I did notice though my signal levels on 103-S and 99-S were extremely low. What are these satellites? I never get 771 errors or anything like that.... are those satellites just spotbeams or something?

When removing a dish from a rooftop, if screwed through shingles, best to leave the baseplate in place rather than patch holes and risk leaks. So say my installer anyway. Makes sense to me.

My 72.5 dish is still up there. Someday will get around to it.

Yes, the "S" designation indicates those are the spot beams.

Sweet, thanks. Is there a list somewhere that can tell me exactly what satellite is giving me what?

And for the dude with the roof mounted dish, mine was mounted on a metal pole behind the house. I will be "tearing it down" this weekend. I will toss the dish in the recycling bin and keep the pole for future use.

Also, you could hack it into a long range WiFi antenna

You could recycle it. Its good scrap metal.

Or use it for target practice if you get a bigger than expected bill. Taking a 12-gauge to one of those does wonders for your mood.

All the locals were on 72.5 except UNC TV, they use the WUNC feed off the 101 satellite.
They added a SD feed of The CW(15) to the 99 sat. So now you can get all the locals without the need of the 72.5 sat.

Also Directv has dropped the HD feed of WCTI. They have not yet get a agreement in place. They are currently using a SD feed in its place on 99 sat. You can still remove the 72.5 dish.

Hmmm, I have an old Sony elliptical dish, a round 18" dish, and a Phase III in my garage.

Anyone need a birdbath?
