View Full Version : Trees blocking 61.5 may affect my receiving locals

The good news for Dish customers in the Champaign, Illinois market is that we're probably getting locals this year. This is great news for those of us who will receive these signals from the 110 and 119 or other birds in the SW. HOWEVER, trees block my view to the 61.5 and/or other birds that may be positioned in the the SE. Does anyone know if Dish is likely to use birds in the SW rather than SE? I have had Dish since Feb. 1999 and am currently using the Dish 500 system.
Thanks in advance.

Hi David and welcome to DBSTalk! :hi:
Most likely you're locals will be on 110 so I wouldn't worry about too much. The only reason why you would even want to point a dish at 61.5 is to get some international programming or HDTV channels (which should be moving to 110 soon anyway).

Chris and Darkman:
Thanks for your replies. It's a bit difficult to sort thru which birds are where and what channels are where. I read somewhere on this forum that only about 30 percent of spot-beam capacity is left in the Southwestern skies. That raised a concern. Hope you're right, Chris.

No problem David. To help you there is a chart over on the EKB (Echostar Knowledge Base) that has a listing of channels and satellites. The chart is rather large so be patient while it loads.

I just cut down another two trees at a cost of $300.00 to keep my 119. view alive.
My wife keeps saying, we aren`t going back to cable because of what again ?

How big and how many trees???
My grandmother had about 15 30' tall trees cut down for free, the guy used the wood for lumber sales. He cut 'em down and ground the stumps. She did have to pay someone about $100 to come in and clean up the mess, but it beat paying $1k+ to cut down the trees...
