Earlier today we were watching Roadhouse on A & E (HD). I can only describe the picture as looking "strange." It didn't look like a movie normally does in HD. It was live looking, almost surreal.
No other channels look this way. Anyone else notice this or am I going crazy?

I didn't see that show, but was it possible that it was one of A&E's Stretch-O-Vision shows where they take 4x3 and stretch it to 16x9? A lot of their programs and a few other Networks (like History Channel) do that and it distorts the video and makes it look horrible.

The OP didn't describe the "strangeness" as being stretched but being maybe too vivid. A&E probably cranked up the color intensity.

I watched alittle bit of it earlier and it didn't really look HD to me just alittle "strange".
