Ok so I have had my satellite up for about a month now and it has been great! I love the HD programming of D* and the new receiver has been great with no problems. Last night I was watching 24 on Fox 40 (sacramento) and I was getting pixelation and sometimes the audio would stay and I would get pixelation at the bottom and sometimes the screen would have pixelation in the middle and the audio would pop. It was a totally clear day and not really any wind at all. Checked signal strengths on 99 and 103 and they are all good except each one has one signal that is 80 (which is the lowest) but the rest are like 89+.

The pixelation was very random, sometimes it wouldnt do it for 10-15 minutes sometimes it would do it ever minute and some of the pixelation stayed for like 10 secconds. Audio was always pretty much there except the random pops.

The only thing I could possibly think it would be is there is a tree that could be getting in the way when the wind slightly blew, but when the installer was here he said that I have more than a perfect shot and even if it was pointing at the tree, the signal is coming from over the TV.

So I guess my question is, do you guys think this is a local channel issue or dish alignment? I can hop up there today after I get home from work and take a picture down the arm of the sat and you guys can tell me what you think of the tree.

Also, to note that none of the other channels have problems. There was also no rain and it was a very dry and clear day.

Based on info from the engineer at our local FOX, there's an issue with FOX affiliates and the signal breakups you're experiencing. They've managed to clear this up at FOX8 in New Orleans (their signal was unwatchable at times), but it's a definite issue that affects OTA and SAT/Cable retransmission.

So it's not you, it's an issue that needs to be addressed between FOX, your Local Affiliate and maybe even the DirecTV uplink center.

It wasn't "you", and I hate to say it, but you might as well start "getting used to it".
"Our" local HD channels 3-58 can/will [randomly] have this type of problem. Things can be good for weeks and then bang, every recording/channel will start to show things like this.

Do you guys ever get it on movie channels or anything?

I saw it a few months ago on my SD tivo and it happened for a few minutes then never did it again.

"The chain" [feed from source to TV] can be quite long, and there can be a glitch anywhere, so yes I've seen minor dropouts, but not anywhere near as bad as our locals, which can be fine for almost a month and then have a "bad day" [which can last for a few days]. If you can get the station with an antenna, sometimes you'll find it's the station and other times it will only be in the SAT feed.

Watching American Idol last night and tonight was terrible. Lots of pixelation and sound dropouts. What the heck is Fox up to?
