View Full Version : Can RCA cables be too long?

We decided against putting a R22 in the sunroom, since it it's not heated 24/7, just during the day with a small space heater. Instead I wanted to run a cable from the kids R22 in the basement, to a tv in the sunroom. Odd that R22's don't have a cable out. It should be a 15-20 foot run, so I got a 25 foot RCA cable from Amazon for $8. Assuming it's a good quality RCA cable, is that too long, for tv in the sunroom to get a good picture and sound?

It should work just fine. There are limits to how long a RCA cable can be, but 25' shouldn't have too much signal loss.

RCA cables that are 2000 feet long are probably too long but I have run 200 ft without an issue.

Back in the day I used to run cables 50-100 feet. There was some line loss, but not really enough to worry about in an average home theater.

You could always get an RF modulator and run your Coaxial RG6 or whatever they use now. IMO that would be a cleaner install as it is only 1 cable and you could run the cable and then put the ends on it, smaller hole req'd.

As long as it remains plugged in, it will generate enough heat to keep itself warm unless the room gets below freezing. The operating temp is above 100 degrees.
Humiditiy in the summer would be worse on it than the cold I would think.

I got the RCA cable run to the tv in the sunroom, but unless I'm doing something wrong, I can only get the same channel or recorded show to be on both tvs. I thought since there were two outputs, each tv could have a different channel on it.

All outputs have the same channel.
