Sorry if I'm behind the times (or if I'm in the wrong section of the forums), but I was just watching Charlie Rose on KCPT in KC (through DirecTV, not OTA) and I see a constant crawl along the bottom saying:

important if you are seeing this message on your tv you are not dtv ready and you will have no picture after feb 17 please connect your dtv converter or call or visit www to learn the ways you can become digital ready

I thought this was a non-issue on DirecTV? I guess the uplink is analog somehow, I'm not intimately familiar w/ the tech side? We don't have HD yet for PBS, so if we aren't converted to HD am I going to lose PBS?

No concern, DirecTV may be receiving the stations analog feed, it will be ok come changeover.

According to http://mstv.org/docs/satschedalpha.pdf, Directv has already transitioned to picking up digital signals in KC. However, in some areas the PBS stations haven't yet integrated their HD and mainline programming so Directv may still be using an analog feed in those cases.

Here in Seattle, Directv doesn't have PBS in HD yet, but the SD channel uses the digital signal and the station "bug" says KCTS9 HD :)
