Looking forward to having it here in the Harrisburg PA DMA (WITF).

Thanks for the heads up! It will be a welcome addition here in the Des Moines DMA, even though I get a perfectly good signal OTA from 11-1, 11-2, 11-3. I expect all we will see is 11-1 (even though -2 and -3 have totally different programming). Obviously, the main channel is what is really important as far as I am concerned.

Still no Boston??? What's up with that?

It truly is ridiculous. Considering, the importance of boston to pbs as a whole, I am tempted to say directv should be so ashamed that they should not launch anymore markets before they resolve to have this market, but I know that wouldn't be fair to the rest of you.

Folks, Now that the day has come, let's reserve this thread for those people who wish to report that their PBS affiliates are live. Questions and comments about other PBS affiliates can be made in the "More HD in 2009" thread.

Maybe there could be a separate "New PBS Locals in 2009", rather than burying it in the More HD in 2009 thread?

PBS-HD (Ch 11) is up in the Des Moines DMA. There is no HD content until about 45 minutes from now, but the channel is present. I'll report on video quality when I see some HD.

I noticed that I had to manually turn on 6 KVIE (Sacramento), the HD feed, in my favorites. Why is that? Also, of course, had to migrate my to do lists / recurring recordings manually. If I wasn't reading this board, how would I ever know of "new" channels or feeds?

Why did they not turn on the Des Moines HD PBS for the Western Iowa DMA? Is the same channel repeated to about 5 stations all over Iowa, everyone should be able to get even if your not in the Des Moinnes DMA.

Anything on when PBS HD:listening may be up in Connecticut?

Old_Style
01-16-09, 01:53 PM
scottchez.... I was wondering the same thing. They turned on HD for the main DesMoines PBS (KDIN 11) but did not turn it on for the repeater stations throughout the state. So, it looks like you have to be in the DesMoines DMA to get the HD version of "Iowa Public Television". Those in the neighboring DMAs of Sioux City, Cedar Rapids, Quad Cities, and Omaha/Council Bluffs are stuck with the SD version of "Iowa Public Television". (Although the Omaha/Council Bluffs DMA already gets an HD version of PBS from KYNE 26 which is part of Nebraska Educational Telecommunications (NET))

So, for those of you that have PBS in HD, do you get the sub channels or just the main one? Most of the PBS I watch are on the subs (PBS Kids, Austin City Limits, etc.) so if they only give the main channel then it looks like I'll still need OTA when they light up PBS HD here in Greensboro.

No. DirecTV (or Dish) do not carry any subchannels.

I am obviously missing something here. I am in zip 92277, north of Palm Springs and receive ALL of the LA locals including the PBS Channel,KCETHD. At least that's what their logo on the screen indicates. The Directv guide lists the channel as LA 28. I have yet to see any HD programming. Regular programming has the black bars on the sides, and sometimes top and bottom. Any suggestions?

Swanni finally announced these new PBS HD stations on Directv and used DBSTalk.com as a source. :)
