Just got the 8psk module today. According to the CSR, I should receive NBATV-HD because I subscribe to AT150. But when I install the module in the 6000, it doesn't work properly. The module shows up fine in the SYSINFO screen, but when I try to tune to the HDEVENT channel, the receiver just shuts off and the little green light starts blinking, and then the receiver restarts itself and gets stuck on 'acquiring signal'. It stays that way. I took the module out and the receiver was working fine then. I reinstalled the module and got the same problem. Also when I took the module out, it was Very hot (but I didn't smell any burning). What am I doing wrong? Any help is appreciated. Thanks,

Huzefa

Doesn't sound to me like you're doing anything wrong. You should just have to plug it in, reconnect your incoming coax and it works. If you subscribed to Discovery HD Theater, try tuning to channel 9420. It sounds to me like you have a bad module.

Do you have Discovery HD listed in RED on your guide?

The HBAHD Channel is not really there (its only there when something is being broadcast.) I wish they would put up a demo loop on this channel when its not in use so you can test your module without having to subscribe to Discovery HD.

No, I don't have the DiscHD channel. Not really interested in that; I just wanted the module for the NBATV. Dish was showing the 2003 allstargame replay last night and I tried tuning to it and the module kept screwing up. Is there any other way I can check its a bad module?

Are you pointing at 61.5 or 148?
I believe all the HD programs are on those birds.

Is Discovery HD showing up in RED on your guide?

Pointing towards 61.5. Yes, DiscHD is red. But the HDevent channel is grey.

Did you unplug the 6000 before inserting the module? Did you see Model ID: 6000(8PSK) at the top of the Sys Info screen?

Ya, i unplugged it, and now I see Model ID: 6000 (8vsb/8psk) on the top of the sysinfo screen.

What is my software version supposed to be? Currently it is 777PCNAD.

Forgot to add: when i took the 8psk out, it was very warm to the touch. The previous 8psk module was also very warm. Does that mean anything?

777 is the current SW version.

I wouldn't worry about the module being "warm." (Unless you mean very, very warm; i.e., hot & smelling of smoke.)

Dunno what the problem is or even if you really have a problem. I would try a power reset again now that a new module is situated. Then subscribe to DHDT however briefly just to see if it's working.

Worst case scenario: RA the 6000.

6000 is not under warranty, so can't return it. Plus its working just fine without the module. The module itself was working fine for about 10 min and then it did the same thing.

Go into menu-> #6 system set up-> #1 installation -> #1 point dish/signal then use the arrow key to move to 61.5 and see if you are indeed getting signal on it, then change the transponder number to number 04. 04 is the transponder that DHDT uses on 61.5. If you have a green bar with signal your 8PSK should be working fine. If you do not have signal on 4 but do on other transponders on 61.5 you are receiving QPSK but not 8PSK.

Sure you can. For $50 + S&H DISH will exchange a defective OOW receiver. Just make sure it's really defective or you will be billed $30 for NPF (No problem found.)

But you still haven't convinced me there's a problem. If you see DHDT in red in the EPG & Model 6000(8vsb/8psk) on the sys info screen you ought to be good to go.

Why not turn on DHDT to see if it works. Then call back & turn it off if you don't really want it. You should be billed a pro-rated amount if $7.99 is really more than you can afford to keep it for a month.

OK, I checked the signal strength on transponder 4 and it's at 102. I also activated DHDT wish dish for the timebeing and still get the same problem. For a couple of hours on Sunday, I was actually receiving the channel fine. But then it started acting up again. I don't feel like spending $50 more if there's actually nothing wrong with the receiver (which works fine without the module in it). I'm at wits end right now. Any thoughts? Will resetting the memory and taking a new firmware download do anything?

May help but won't hurt. I'm not sure that a memory dump willl promt a firmware download so you better ask for advanced tech support & see what they say.

Since you've had the same problem with 2 8PSK modules my advice would be to RA the 6000.
