Free preview for HBO as well and they have some exclusive inauguration content this Sunday.
Excuse me, but all this has ALREADY been delayed from May, 2003, right?
Oh, you didn't (for whatever reason) forget about that delay, because of the NAB whining and Congress kowtowing to that delay since they didn't have enough time (10 years!) from 1992.
I've been giving seminars at retirement centers for the last 5+ years. The last few, EVERYBODY has been ready for ages around my part of the country. The only real change has been LOTS more movement off traditional means of connection, like cable, either to satellite or back to terrestrial antenna.

Did you reply to the right thread.. You are talking about the cut over to Digital, the initial post is talking about Obama inaguration. What's up with that?

A "senior moment", perhaps?

Looks neat, though I'd imagine there will be pool cameras in most locations and during all the actual ceremonies it'll all be the same image/audio.

many channels covering the same event? then bunch them all up on one channel? how many different views of the SAME event do we need? at least the other mix channels are covering different things. why should i watch this when i can watch, say, cnn or foxnews in HD full screen?

Like all the mix channel coverage of a major event, the mix gives you the opportunity to see who has what coverage, angles, and perspectives quickly and easily.
Like anything else, just a handy option if you want.
Cheers,
Tom
I wish they would just make the standard mix channels in HD already!
This one does not make much sense to me as usually for these type of political events all the channels have the same view.

Thank you Directv. Love the mix channels.
Can we have more? Say a KIDS mix, Comedy Mix, and a movie Mix
THey only take up the same bandwidth as a normal SD channel and you can advertise at the time of them to make more money.

They used to have a kids mix, but it mixed up the parents too much. :)
(True, they did have a kids mix, don't know why it was dropped other than lack of interest.)

It's supposed to be sunny and in the 50s here on that day so I think I will go for a ride on my motorcycle!

You mean the day we all go digital? Oh wait, wrong thread.:p
looks like every other TV provider (http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/01/17/verizon-bright-house-networks-providing-gratis-coverage-of-hbo/) in USA copied D* and is offering a free preview of HBO for this occasion.
and E* is also offering a mix ch (http://dish.client.shareholder.com/releasedetail.cfm?ReleaseID=359823) for this event.
i wanted this to be a D* exclusive... :(

Don't be a sore loser. January 20, 2009 is going to be a great day in American history, for a whole lot of reasons.

It's interesting that "don't be a sore loser" is being lobbied towards the party that heard nothing but "selected not elected" for several years.
That said, it does seem like a waste of resources if most networks will be using pooled video feeds.

Um, where exactly would D* use those "wasted" resources for the half week the mix channel will be on. More PPV?
Also, I would assume whoever had won the Presidency D* would have likely "wasted resources" with similar coverage. It is the swearing in of a new President, which is kind of a big deal, no matter which party he belongs to.

If you record a mix channel are all the audio and interactive options still available during playback?
Stuart Sweet

I don't think you can record a mix channel. At any rate I don't think the features would work, but you might be able to switch audio tracks manually.

Just did a test. You can record a mix channel, but you CANNOT change stations while you are watching the recording. What you had it on while you were recording is the only thing you can listen to.

Any interactive channel can be recorded, but the interactive functionality is not recorded along with it.

This is weird. I'm in southeastern Virginia, but in each case -- selecting CBS, NBC or ABC -- it tries to turn to that network's affiliate in the Raleigh-Durham area. I then get a message that the "game" is not available in my area and that it is searching. Weird.
