I am cancelling Directv service. Nothing wrong with it, I just don't watch enough to justify the cost. I understand they will send me boxes to return the receivers, but do I need to insure the return packages, and if so for what amount? I have two H20-600 units to return.
Thanks.

DIRECTV will ship you prepaid return kits. Once you receive them package the receivers and use the label inside the box they send you. Then either call FedEx for pick up or drop them off to FedEx.
They've got it down to a science now; even sending you a strip of tape to use on your box. The enclosed label has the tracking number. Just write it down.

Make sure you keep the FedEx tracking number.
There is a very good chance that DirecTV will have no record of receiving the returned equipment and will charge you a couple hundred bucks each. You need the FedEx tracking number to prove that you returned the equipment and to prove that it was delivered to DirecTV.

No need to insure it btw.

One bit of advice: When you drop the box at the FedEx location (such as Kinko's) ask for a "receipt". They will scan the barcode and hand you a slip of paper that tells anyone interested that the box is now in FedEx hands. Also, it puts it in their tracking system so you (and D*) can see that it's on the way.
I ship a lot of stuff out of my local Kinko's. The employees there usualyl tell people to just leave their prepaid shipments on the counter and then they don't get scanned until the truck arrives for loading. I've always been slightly concerned that a box might get lost between the counter and the truck, so this prevents that from being "my" problem.
