I bought some 15ft hdmi cable awhile back from monoprice.com. The problem lies with my PS3 (40gb) and tv (Toshiba 42RV530U), this cable just doesn't seem to work right and I have no idea why!! With the PS3 off the screen says no video (duh) and when it's turned on it says unsupported video:( The hdmi cables that come with the Directv HD boxes work fine and I get picture and sound, they're just not long enough which is why I bought new ones from monoprice. The other two cables I purchased work fine my with HD DVD player and my HD DVR but not the PS3. I've not tried switching any cables because they are all zip tied together and it would be a big PIA to do so! Is this cable just bad or maybe not compatible for some reason I don't understand? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!
the only way to find out for sure is to try one of the other 15' monoprice cables. i am using a monoprice cable on my ps3 and it works fine.

Sounds like you bought a cable that isnt 1.3 compatible, I had the same problem with my PS3. Just check and confirm it is 1.3 compatible and can do 1080p resolution.

Well I know when i ordered them they were supposed to be 1.3, but maybe they're not. I'm gonna go ahead and see if one of the other ones will work. I'll post back when i switch them, Might be awhile though since theirs so many zip ties!!!!:eek2:

Ok it appears i have a bad cable since the one from the HD DVD player works just fine with the PS3 and the one that was hooked to PS3 doesn't work with the HD DVD player! All three cables say 1.3b on them. Whats the difference between 1.3a and 1.3b? Anyways it looks as if I will be buying another from monoprice!!!:D Once again I appreciate the responses!!!

I'm not sure on 1.3a and 1.3b but I would assume just higher bandwidth throughput. I know to carry sound and video especially at higher resolutions you need higher quality cable. You do not however need to spend $200 on 'monster' cables, if there were higher and lower quality cables in my mind it would render the ratings on them meaningless so I don't see how there could be a difference worth a 200 - 300% markup between some brands.

You just got a bad cable. Return it to Monoprice and they'll be happy to replace it for you.
"Ratings" on HDMI cables are pretty much worthless on the shorter lengths. They all can handle everything, it is just marketing.
