View Full Version : Where is the IR receiver on an HR21-200?

Sorry, both "IR" and "receiver" are impossible search terms. Can someone tell me exactly where the IR receiver is so I can place my IR blaster appropriately?

Thanks!

There is a redish plastic circle between the on/off switch and blue ring.

Ah, the "blank" button next to the power switch. Thanks!

Yup, right there, and beware that it is quite sensitive to overload with IR blasters.

One trick many use is to cover it with tape and just prick a pin hole through the tape for the blaster to work through. This helps to prevent overload if you have that issue.

Electrical tape? I have 2 blasters that I want to use: one for my slingbox and one for my remote. The slingbox works flawlessly. the remote on the other hand... I can see the unit receives the codes (the remote receiver) but they only work maybe 25-30% of the time.

So I'd like advice for those who do this. The remote extender I have is Next Generation Remote Control Extender (http://www.amazon.com/Next-Generation-Remote-Control-Extender/dp/B000C1Z0HA/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1232045118&sr=8-1). The slingbox is the original classic. Do I make some sort of hood/shield/electrical-tape thing for the two of them? It is in the bedroom... don't want it too ugly. :) Thanks in advance.

It is in the bedroom... don't want it too ugly. :) Thanks in advance.I did the "cover the window and make a small pin prick hole in the tape" trick and have both a slingbox emitter and another emitter attached to the taped over window by more electrical tape forming a dome over the window. Both emitters work very reliably...now the ugliness factor is another story, but since I have the units hidden away in an equipment closet, this is not a factor. I'm sure that a more creative person than I am could make a nice looking cover for the IR window.

One problem that I do have is that the tape tends to not stick very well and I find myself having to rebuild the domes every once in a while. Does anyone else have any ideas on what I can do to make them stick better? I am just using normal black electrical tape.

thanks,
Murray

You can use regular electrical tape and cut it to the IR window circle size, does not look that bad IMO.

My one emitter (expensive phillips pronto) works great even without a shield, but the cheapo IR extender I use for the other room overloads my receiver all the time without some sort of shield.
