I have one of the older HD recievers I think it's an H10. Over the last couple weeks it's been locking up like crazy meaning I have to reset it. It scrambles guide listings etc. You'll be watching... it will shut off. So I suspect a failure is comming. Now here's the issue. I was thinking about getting a DVR in June. Will Directv possibly offer me a discount on the DVR or just replace what's broken and move on?

Probably. Those old H10 Receivers cannot even receive the new HD channels. Give them a call and ask.

My H10 didn't fail but I decided a couple of months ago to upgrade that receiver as I had upgraded the HDTV hooked to it. I'd been getting occasional phone calls from DirecTV about "we've noticed you have an old HD receiver and we'd like to offer to upgrade it" so I called and was told they'd send me an H21 for free. I asked if, since I like having the OTA capability, could I have an H20. They said they'd try and what showed up a couple of days later was an HR20. Called DirecTV and they "oh well....if it works just keep it". Since I already had an HR20 I wasn't incurring any new charges so why not. Works for me and I'm surprised, after a little reshuffling of the location of my receivers, how much I enjoy having two DVR's.
