I made a post here about a month ago detailing my experience switching from DIRECTV to FiOS. So far I'm very pleased; the HD video quality of FiOS is outstanding.

One thing that didn't change much in the transition was my ability to watch SD channels. I have a 55" plasma HDTV and I found the SD channels on both DIRECTV and Dish Network to be unwatchable. And that was true of FiOS too, until a couple of days ago.

Verizon pushed a new software version to Oregon and Washington. This update "fixed" the quality of their SD channels. Now they look nearly as good as 4:3 SD content upscaled on an HD channel! What this means is that I can watch SD channels again and all those channels that I haven't been able to watch for years are now available to me again.

Sure it'll still be nice when additonal channels are made available in HD but in the meantime I don't feel like I'm missing a thing.
