Am looking for commenents from E* users that have subscribed to HD programming.
Just how much HD programming is their out there from E*
Have you had to get another dish to use with 61.5?
How is the quality of the picture?
Did you have to upgrade your receiver?
Was it worth the money?

The following HD Programming is up

Dish HDTV DEMO Channel
HBO HD
SHOWTIME HD
HD Pay Per View
CBS HD (If elgible)
Discovery HD (8PSK Format)
NBA TV (8PSK Format)

Yes you need a second Dish pointed at 61.5

The picture quality is GREAT

Yes I needed the 8PSK module for Discovery HD.

I think it was worth the money, however I am getting tired of paying for upgrades, I am going to be mad if I need a superdish for HD and they want me to pay for it.

Same as Scott. Yes for Dish, Yes for 8psk, and outstanding picture quality (especially Discovery HD). Definately worth the money for me.

I have 61.5 and 148. I get the Dish Demo channel, CBS-HD E&W
and The HD Event channel (9425 8PSK) when it is on and 5 locals with my 8VSB adapter. The best show I have seen was the super bowl this year.

Is it worth it? I though so, although my wife and twin 15 year old daughters prefer to watch with the 501 and Dishplayer PVR's, even if show is in HD.

I think a 721 may have been a better choice for our situation.

It's been worth it for me as well, but the novelty is wearing off a bit. I used to watch anything for the "awe" factor, now the programming has to be compelling. I'd really like to get an HD PVR if cost isn't too prohibitive, but I'm waiting to see what programming package for HD Dish is going to offer.

Worth it for me.

Just to clarify a few things:

You MUST have the 6000 or 6000u to receive any HD. No other receiver at this time will allow HD reception for Dish. The 6000 must be upgraded with the 8psk module for HDDiscovery and HDEvents and all future HD channels. The 6000u is already upgraded.

You have an HD ready TV, right??

The optional 8vsb module(for both receivers) is for your local over the air digital channels. Some of the programming is HD and most isn't. You need a regular antenna to feed the signal to the 8vsb module.

I find HBO-HD is worth it just for the Sopranos. And it has a lot of movies in HD.

Discovery-HD has an excellent picture but it runs the same shows over and over. But, it is getting better.

Showtime-HD does not impress me. A few movies are real HD but most are just SD.

I am waiting for the HDnet channels. They should be good.

When NBA-TV shows a HD basketball game, it is great. But, there have not been too many.

I think the Superdish will be free, but only if you upgrade to AT150 for another year and sign up for credit card autopay. What a bloody gyp though. I like not having a contract.

I would STRONGLY recommend getting the 8VSB adapter if your local stations do any HD programming. Some of the stuff out there, like CSI or NYPD Blue (in Dolby Digital 5.1 audio) are just as good as the programming that you'd get on Dish HD channels.

I just purchased a 6000U a few weeks ago, but I was betting strictly on the come. If I thought that all I'd ever be able to watch for the foreseeable future was SHO-HD and HBO-HD and a few NBA games, I would've saved myself $600. Shortly after my investment came the announcement about HDNet and HDNet Movies, so it would appear I bet wisely. :goodjob: Time will tell, though.

(I should add that my TV has an HD tuner, so I didn't need the 6000 for any OTA programming.)

CSI (both) are worth it to me, and the occasional gems on HBO and Showtime

Yes - definitely worth it.
I have HBO-HD, Showtime-HD, Disc.HD, CBS-HD, and whatever they put on "special events" channel. The pay-per-views change soooo slowly.

Discovery needs some new programming. Hope they pick up Cinemax-HD when it arrives. (HBO/Cinemax package is cheaper). Can't wait until HDNets are on.

I hope that Miami judge doesn't throw out distant networks - would REALLY hate to lose CBS-HD.

They won't (can't?) REQUIRE superdish for what's going on already. But for new channels, just like requiring the 8PSK for earlier "new" channels could happen again. Doesn't mean they'll do that, though.

Is there anything John Q. Public can do to stop the Miami Judge?

Not clearly stated by anyone is that currently the only channel with a specific HD subscription on dish is Discovery HD (requires 8psk adapter which can be had for free with a years subsciption).

HBOHD is included if you have HBO
SHOWTIME HD is included if you have Showtime
CBSHD is included if you qualify for it (waivers, CBS O &O, white areas)
HD pay for view is obviously Pay per view.
The others including NBAHD (requires 8psk adapter but at least this year ) are free and no other requirements

I'll be an HD subscriber the day I can get my hands on a 921. I'm not giving up my PVR for HDTV.

I've got an HD capable Sony 57" screen just thirsting for HD content.

C'mon E*. Hurry up and get the thing out the door already.........

Have not one, but two 6000's. Worth every penny IMHO. Have all possible programming from Dish, anxiously awaiting HDnet. The OTA locals aren't mentioned alot but they rate as high as HBO or any other HD content. CBS picture quality is unbeatable. Last nights 2 hour Survivor wasn't in HD but the signal "looks" like it could be, its just that sharp. The local Albuquerque WB and UPN stations just went live a few weeks ago so we have ALL networks in the ABQ DMA broadcasting OTA digital. Their picture is hands down sharper than what we get from Dish even in though its in SD.

Like I said, worth every penny.

Still no PBS HD. Not even on HDnet :-(

Comcast is looking better and better all the time ...

I am waiting for the 921. I have a 501 & a Samsung STB (cheap on Ebay) for OTA for now. IT is WORTH adding an OTA signal now. I get all 4 major networks & WETA PBS in DC that multicasts. This PBS shows 2-3 HD shows nightly!! BTW I live 75 MILES form DC!!!! & still get good signal.
