Any way to force the box to make a call over Ethernet vs the phone line? As I only have the Ethernet line hooked to HD DVR.

The boxes don't "make a call" like the DirecTivo units did. Simply having the ethernet hooked up tells it to make connections over ethernet.

Joe, the only reason I have my HR21 hooked up to the phone line is for caller ID and this was done months after intial set up. Hook your unit up to the network and you should be golden...

After some time on the internet, the box should be able to send the PPV information and things like that over the network and the phone line can be disconnected. Mine works using the network only connection just fine. They never miss billing me for a PPV that I may have purchased. Not sure what the timeline is for this to take place.

Just run the network test in the setup menu and make sure it says you are connected to the internet. You should be good then ;)

I was just asking as once I was not able to get ppv to work useing movies now but free on demand did work and when I called in they said that the last call in was in OCT and only thing that got changed was the new drv software that added the network services stuff.

The DVR software is loaded over the sat, not either phone or ethernet. It is most likely true that your last call was in Oct. As mentioned above, ethernet does not "call", it just connects.

This may have been answered in another thread, but I haven't been able to find it. If so, sorry for the duplicate.

Some time back, folks were talking about receiving an unsolicited call from D* saying something to the effect of - "We see your dish is out of alignment, so we are scheduling a tech visit to repair the problem".

Was this troubleshooting being done (or continuing to be done) over ethernet or phone?

I ask because only 1 of our recvrs is connected to ether a phone or internet.

So; 1) is this troubleshooting still ongoing?
2) is the connection internet based or telephone based or both?

Thanks in advance for any assistance. It seems like a very user friendly service and I want to take advantage.

If your order a PPV from VOD it's downloaded from the internet Connection.
If your order it thru your remote forom the guide It's downloaded from the Sat connection.

You are charged (billed) using your phone line , The reciver you order it from reports to the mother ship and that's how you are billed.

Thne way around that is to order pay per view online from your D* account
Channel Guide or the VOD channel guide.
and it the Billing Reciver (room you wish to use) would not need to be connected to a phone line.

I don't have any phone lines connected, yet have been able to order PPV via the remote.

I forget what needs to be done on DirecTV's end (it should be automatic once they detect your receiver communicating via the network), but you may need to call the CSR to make sure they have your account marked for ordering PPV via the network connection.

If you disable Caller ID in the setup menu, then you should loose that pop up (About the phone Line)
