Well - very informative Retailer Chat today...
Lots of good info provided,
Lots of HDTV info...
Lots of info on Superdish, Dishnet's plans for the Superdish, Locals, International channels etc...

I wish Scott (who usually gets a tape of Retailer Chat or watches it), or someone else with good typing, or someone who has access to the transcipt, provides all the Good info here...

In any case some details (lots of info, so one would have to watch carefully, pause the tape etc to provide it all...and i am just not sure if or when i can find time to do that..So Scott - you are welcome to do it):

As i mentioned at different threads already:
Sioux Falls has agreement with NBC on Apr 10, 2003 - so it is available now...
Paducah is available now...
Jackson MS - to be available to subscribers on May 15,
Knoxville, TN - to be available - May 22...

Six new channels to be added to Dish Latino and available May 29, (for no extra charge to subscribers)...
One of them - Toon Disney maybe already available now (but not sure about that fact, cuz they had some "boo-boo" with a poster there or something like that - originally they advertised only 4 channels, but some1 called and said that it's not 4 but 6)...
So it is indeed 6 - Toon Disney, i think Univision (or another one if there is one in place now), Telefutura (or West if there is one in place now, Pelicula and another one like that (or whatever those were called - cuz i missed the names and only could see from that poster and names weren't very too legible to me at that poster), and some other one - can't recall now...
so again - Toon Latino maybe available now already - but do not take my word for it at this particular moment :)

hehe - they had strange beginning of Chat - took them total of like 10 minutes:
Jim dreaming (or something like that) that he was in Charge of Chat for once..and they went with some sort of Comedy Parody of a chat "with Jimmy D and a side kick little C" (hehe).. and some Parody of phone calls - Jimmy was real, but Charlie was a little Charlie's poster - looking like a little poster of a boy (little C i guess)...
Later though it was Chalie's turn - and he had his comedy parody - he said that they had to replace Mr Defranco with a man of few words replacement of "Tiny J" who can't talk (and that will work very well for Charlie - hehe)
Then they had some real highlights from Team Summit, Celebrities there, like Bill Clinton speaking, etc, and when those highlights were over (that followed those Parodies in the beginning) - about 15 minutes were gone - and Real Charlie and Jim appeared (as normal, as they normally do)...

Then they had some good charts, HD info, spoke about new technology, resources, etc...
Spoke about some very exiting promotions that are coming (like first 3 month free of America 100 or something like that)...
They spoke about new sat - 105 location - will be moved in place in a next month or 2, showed picture of Super dish (the way of the future for someone who would want it all...doesn't mean that everyone will want it or definatly not everyone will need it)
Example of what they ll be potentionally be able to do with a Super dish (only example, Charlie said: "Example what will be able to do eventually...potentionally - all on 1 Dish, but doesn't nessesarily mean that we'll do all of them, or when we ll do them" (no exact dates set i guess)):
- 150 locals Cities Covering 90% of US TV Households (Charlie added: "those certainly are more then the entire Cable industry covers today!"), (those i think might include the current Local cities available)
- 100 International Channels (Charlie added: "100 different international channels...We do 42 of them today" (42 are available now Charlie said, so the way i am starting to interprete it (on my own), is that not nessesarily 100 new ones will be added, but maybe will be added for a total of a 100, and if we have 42 already, then i guess that makes it about 58 more, which could go probably on the same dish with current ones...but who knows..)
- 50 High Definition Channels (Charlie added: "we do 8 or 10 of them today, and we'll not stop at 8 or 10, in terms of HD)
- 500 Video Channels
- Broadband - 2004 (Charlie said: "and finally Broadband in 2004, so Superdish is the Wave of the future for some1 who wants it all, but that doesn't mean every1 would want it, certainly lots of Folks will just need only a standard Dish 500 dish")

Then they started to talk about Locals that i mentioned above...
Few things to add:

- for Jackson MS will be 4.99 per month (no Fox in Jackson originally - Jim added)
- #66 is Knoxville, TN (May 22) (one can hear Charlie in the background: "Oh THanks goodness, thanks goodness for that!, I can go home" .. Jim: "Charlie is close by there, etc"):
Knoxville will be 5.99 per months, and here they are:

WATE ABC 6
WVLT CBS 8
WBIR NBC 10
WTNZ FOX 43
WBXX WB 20
WKOP PBS 15

Then Charlie said those 150 locals that potentially will be available..do not forget - only potentionally...Some might not have Retrans agreements, etc, ..some might not be economic cities, so even though those all are planned, but nothing is 100 % garanteed though (not "written in stone" i guess), (i guess all potentially will be, but one never knows if any "chit" happens and 2 or 3 will drop out, etc - that is Me speaking...hehe not Charlie)

Jim goes: Well retailers are asking us for some time frames, so they can get Customers informed, and get prepared, etc, - so the Next 3 slides will be very pleasing! ..We got positive response at Team Summit, so we ll show you first "Q2 2003 Planned Launches", so here they are:

All this info came in a form of 3 separate Charts... Moderators, if you feel like it, you are welcome to make up a better looking Text with the upcoming locals, and make some sort of a new Thread on those... and EVEN make it a Stick-up, cuz lots of people always wondering to know approximation of when their locals are coming, and this way if the thread is a Stick-UP - it will give them opportunity to always be able to check on those approximate Time Frames, and not have to look for the thread (cuz it will be a stick-up)... (personally i think Stick-UP those 3 Planned Charts for Locals for 2003 - would be a good idea)

Charlie said: "We were always hasitating to tell you in advance what locals are coming, but now we feel that we have a capacity to do it, so..... Of course some of those locals might "fall off" for "this or that" reason, but at least you ll have an approximate idea... And we will tell you in advance (or try to anyhow) if a particular local market is going to "fall off"...So..."

Here - another try at Latino new channels: (that 1 could be available now, and/or rest will be on May 29):
According to poster (that was missing 2 more new Latino chanels):
- Available now, Today (May 8, 2003) - Toon Disney
- May 29 - De Peticula (available only via Dishnetwork, - leading spanish movie channel, that offers Drama, Comedy, Romance, etc movies - from Mexico, Central and South America...)
- May 29 - De Peticula Classico (available only via Dishnetwork, will not be available via DirecTV :) (Jim said) - incorporates movies from 30s and 40s etc)
- May 29 - TeleHit (Combo of MTV type of service, and other adult services)
- May 29 - 2nd Univision channel (West?)
- May 29 - Telefutura (not sure if West or just Telefutura)

Available for no Extra Charge...

Hmm - Jim said about 100 more new channels that were disscussed at Summit - so who knows maybe potentially will be about 100 more + 42 existing one.. . I don't know then

Mark Cuban - HDnet - Available this summer (Charlie said - they are glad to be in a partnership with him)

Jim: The tools we providing today are just incredible, all the pieces just starting to come in place Now!

Big new thing for Retailers - You asked for it - You got it!... - Repay on Reconnects for all Retailers.. (will not provide details here, - so i guess if needed - call for Details)
hmm - Jim said - One time deal...

OK... - no need for transcript people..
Other then if someone else wishes to provide more HD info details that i am not providing here (cuz i don't have HD and do not really plan to in the near future. so i do not know much about it, so i do not want to disscuss it...
The rest of Chat Details i ll more or less cover in this...

Charlie is joking: Tiny J is going to listen to me (or else i guess - hehe)
Jim: Sorry that we wasted 10 mins with this funny stuff in the beginning

Jim: some questions - When superdish just launched what can people expect in the beginning?
Charlie: probably only 10 channel of HD, not 50, some locals but not all of them, some international channels, but you WILL NOT have everything right away (understandibly so)..We ll have much more details as we come closer..
Jim: we do not know the exact schedule for those new "tools" yet
Charlie: Superdish is not available till July, so bunch of details will come out around that time...
Charlie: Some of you who do not want HD, or international, or have locals already - vast majority of you will not need a Superdish...
Jim: Will we have some sort of an upgrade program for Superdish?
Charlie: We will, but we do not have details yet..
Jim: HD - Which orbital slots HD will come from?
Charlie - can come from all 3.. do not know exactly yet..
ESPN HD - still talking, but not yet..ultimatly hopefully we ll be able to "scratch" something for you, but not sure when...Not much stuff available yet for ESPN HD..only about 6 hours per week..didn't work out something yet that is economically reasonable for the customer...
Jim: Will ALL those new Locals cities that were shown on charts earlier require a Superdish? - obviosly NOT..
Charlie - No...Some of those new ones will require Superdish, maybe Most, but Surely not all of them...

[EDIT] - [edited] - above inserted the word "ALL" :)

Next Charlie Chat - May 12, Monday, 9:00 PM, Eastern Time

Next Retailer Chat - May 29, Thursday, Noon, Eastern Time

(BTW - No mention of Tech Chat)

(BTW - no more mention i think on 100 more new international channels that Jim said...So according to what Charlie said above - who knows - but maybe there is a chance that 100 internationals is Total #, and if we have 42 now, then about 58 more to come, and hopefully they can stay at 61.5 and/or 148...But who knows what will happen...)

At the end of Chat - another Video roll is shown from Team Summit

hehe - I am done :p

Thanks! Great info. There is so much going on it is hard to keep everything straight. I wish there had been some hard facts on the distants lawsuit.

Toon Disney channel that they mentioned to be added to Latino pack - i think it exist already on Dish's EPG...

Does anyone know if they are adding/added a brand new Toon Disney channel for Latino pack, or they are adding/added an existing Toon Disney channel to Latino Pack?

I am starting to lean towards them adding the existing Toon Disney channel to Latino Pack, rather then adding brand new one (and that is why it was mentioned as "available Today")
Makes sense....?

As to Toon Disney and Cartoon Network Latino, I wonder if these will be two "new" channels or if they will mirror the channels currently there and place them in the Dish Latino range or just make the current channels available to DL subscribers. The reason I ask is because the "Spanish" alternate audio track on these channels is close to 100% spanish (except commercials) already.

Thanks for the post Darkman!

See ya
Tony

Well at least they are giving us an idea of what cities will get launched when but folks, its not definite, expect some cities not to get added. DirecTv will at least be adding my DMA so if Dish dont get it then it looks like a bunch of people here will just switch to DirecTv and if Dish gets them later, its too late for a lot of the subs, because they wont switch back.

Is DirecTv giving a timeframe for when they are adding certain cities?

I think on Toon Disney they are now passing on SAP in spanish, not a separate new channel.
