I am switching from D* and the install is scheduled for next week. I am getting 1 722, and 2 612's. Should I pay another $100 to upgrade the 612's to 722's? It seems like after reading the forum that there are some issues with the 612's.

I have 4 RG6 running from my current D* dish, how many RG6 runs does Dish require? Also it looks like you only need 1 coax run to each receiver even for 2tuners using a DPP. Is this correct?

Also is HBO on Demand available?

Thanks for any feedback.

HBO on demand is not available.

Yes you should be able to use 1 Coax per DVR

I have both a 722 and a 612. Yes I do find the 722 slightly more stable, but in my use case the 612 does the job. Like any DVR installed, Mileage may vary. I would personally look at the features to decide if the extra hundred bucks is worth it. If it is, since Dish has a 4 tuner limit per household (As I understand it) you would have to talk to get Dish to wave it to get three 722s. To me.. the 612 is an excellent bedroom DVR and the 722 makes for a good Home Theater DVR though it would also make a great DVR for a two room install where you can live with a single tuner dedicated per room.

The main feature differences are.

1) 722s support Dual Mode
2) 722s Support PIP and Dual Line Buffering in Single mode.
3) 722s have a larger disk drive.

Welcome to DBStalk. Oh.. I noticed you are in St. Louis. I would suggest taking a read for of the Audio issue thread. There are some people in St. Louis area that are experiencing Audio drop outs so something to be mad aware of.

1 x 722 = 1 HDTV + 1 SDTV
2 x 612 = 2 HDTV
=====================
3 HDTV + 1 SDTV = 4 TVs total

2 x 722 = 2 HDTV + 2 SDTV = 4 TVs total

Dish will only lease equipment for 4 TVs. Anything beyond that you have to buy (and will OWN) retail. A 722 is about $499.

Thanks for the feedback. I thought the 612 had PIP. Well I will have to upgrade at least one more becuase I know I would like PIP on at least 2 TV's.

The 612 definitely does not have PIP.

Thanks for the info. I did get them to give me 2 722's but I need another 612, 622, or 722. Any ideas where to look?

Ebay, just make sure the receiver you buy has no outstanding balance associated with it.

There are some good online deals, just make sure they include the REC# in the add, something like this.
"Not a leased unit. Verify with DISH, REC #.............."

I picked up a ViP722 for $280 the other day.
