I have tried all of my tvs w/o antennas. I was thinking that maybe, just maybe that might work.

Any other suggestions?

I have a 612 and a 722. Do either of these have OTA capability?

Thanks!

unless you hook an antenna up to the OTA tuner, then it won't work. go to antennaweb.org or tvfool.com and input your info and it will tell you what abc station you should be able to receive. both the 612 and 722 have OTA tuners in them.

once you connect an antenna to the receiver, you will have to go into the menu and scan for you local channels(hit the menu button, 6, 8). that will get you to the scan menu, click scan locals and it will go through all the channels and then you will be able to see which channels you can pick up.

Yes, both receivers have digital tuners.

I wonder if Charlie has just given up and turned off all hopes EVER of reaching a deal. In the video chat, he says they are millions apart. We are talking millions people. Lets not kid ourselves where those millions come from, his own pocket.

So I am just giving up on this matter just as Charlie has.

boba, calgary2800 is referring to the retransmission fee fight going into its second month between E* and Fisher Broadcasting, the ABC affiliate in Seattle and Portland. Thus no ABC programming unless you can get an OTA signal or are in a "white" area and willing to pay extra for the Atlanta and San Francisco ABC stations.

May not be an answer to your question, but ABC does offer some episodes of programs on-line. If you are looking for episodes of Lost, check ABC.Com.

Goto www.tvfool.com , put in your address, and post the results. From there, we can give a recommendation to attempt to make OTA work. Use an antenna height of 30 feet.

Fisher Broadcasting is the problem here. It is not Dish. Fisher wants more cash so it can pay its CEO big dollars. That is the real truth behind this. We are all pawns in the game.

I'm seeing Charlie wins the damm war here. Most of us are under contract and leaving for just one channel and paying penalties to leave is too much especially in such hard times. And to top it off, watching it on ABC.com is not half bad on the cpu. Turn down the lights and pretend its the 60s again only its in color!!

I am running ABC.com HD episodes from my pc to my projector in HD (should work with any TV as you have a choice of SD or HD download from the site). Picture is as good or better than HD Dish picture in my estimation. Helps to have a good video card and broadband is a must for hd. Vista OS does not make it easy but I am getting it down. Every other night I set it up and we catch up on our favorite ABC shows. Great thing is there are only 20-30 sec. commercials...almost as fast as using my DVR in the old days. All popular shows have free episodes available. Great site. And no audio dropouts (or did those get cured...hard to tell without ABC). NBC and Fox also have good sites if needed.

Check underneath your house for a large horizontal wheel. If you have one, you can move to a location with better reception. Caution, there may be unintended consequences.

Ok.. We have wondered off track here a bit into LOST and the battle between Dish and Fisher. Hmm sounds like a spin off possiblity. Anyway..

As some have suggested. I would recommend starting at antennaweb.org or tvfool.com. I would then wonder over to AVSForum.com and check out there locals section for your DMA. See what people are doing. I would also walk around your neighborhood and see if anyone looks like they are getting OTA and ask them what equipment they use ("if you know them").

The receivers support OTA. The next step is to determine if you can receive it and what equipment you should get to do it. Definitely more of an Art than a science but the route to get there is the same. Determine if you have a chance at getting it, find out what people are using in your area, and duplicate what others are doing close to your area that works to assure success.

Any other questions? Make sense?

Hahah, yeah. But what if he goes back in time before Dish even exists? That would be bad. :)
