If I were a betting man I would bet you get a HR21. If your really lucky a HR22 but I doubt it. If you used the ATSC tuners from the HR20 then make sure you call and try to get a free AM21 out of them as you will need if for any OPA viewing you may want to do.

When I was getting my HR20 replaced I made sure I told the technician that I had an HR20 and I needed it for OTA because I did not get my HD locals from DTV. He noted that and I got sent a refurbished HR20-100. The refurb has not really given me any problems.

They ended up actually replacing it with another HR20-700, which is fine by me. Would have loved an hr23, but knew that wouldn't happen. Is this unusual?

ejThat is a little unusual.

I would have thought it would have been a refurb HR21 or a new HR22.

I wouldn't think there can be many HR20s available these days.

However, I could be wrong....again.

What is Directv's policy on replacing a faulty receiver with one purchased (leased) from a retail store? I've got an old HR20-700 that keeps dropping Tuner 1, and would like to replace it with a new HR22 or HR23. Is there any chance I would get some (or all) of the $199 back?

If it is faulty they should replace it for free, but they won't guarantee any particular model for the replacement.

I know if I use the normal method of calling Directv, any model of HR2x could show up. Just wondered if anyone has negotiated a replacement with a new retail HR2x.

I would think more and more HR20s are going to show up on the refurb pile. Why?

1. Churn...the original HR20 owners would be coming off their commitments and churning out.
2. Drive/Equipment Failures - Some of the boxes are getting close to three years old and are more likely to start having problems (PSU/Drive).

I had my HR21 break and replaced with a brand new HR22 manufactured 12/30/08. Now there is no guarantee that you will get a brand new one like I did, it is common.

A couple of weeks ago I had an HR20-100 die and I got a refurb HR20-700 as a replacement.

They actually asked me if I used the OTA. I said yes. Not sure if that's why I got an HR20-700 though.

I "think" They ship you what ever your account (D* database) will support at the time of your distress call is what they (model) ship.

This info is only based on my account experience :)
