I have a couple of weird questions and some more specific ones. Here is my situation.

I am moving for the 3rd time in 12 months (don't ask it is too painful to recount :D). I am moving into a house that has outlets in most places I need them but not all places. The problem is the third line is on the opposite side of the house where the dish is probably going to be located (plus I am requesting a SWMline since I have all SWM equipment (R22 and 2 HR21s). The bigger issue is the house exterior is brick and the previous tenants had Dish Network install jacks into two of the 3 rooms I need setup. My question is does anyone know if the HSP (Ironwood Communications) in the Idaho Falls/Pocatello, ID area will drill through the brick (the landlord doesn't care because I will probably end up buying his place from him and he does not care in general)? I could have the line fished into the wall but that will be a pain to the installer and I don't want him to have to fish wire if possible (but I will do it if needed).

The last issue is in regard to where a swmline 5 or swmline 3 (don't know which one I will get, probably the swmline 3 but who knows) can be installed. The house has a metal roof(grrr). The previous tenants had dish network setup two dished in a area where LOS could be achieved (and I had the LOS check via dishpointer.com so I am good to go there, I hope). Can a swmline be installed the side of a house where siding exists and anchored there? Sorry I am always a noob on the wierd install stuff. If needed I will take a picture to illustrate my need. If installing to the house is out I will try a pole install close to the house (1 foot or less I hope). Any assistance and ideas would be appreciated.

A pole mount is probably your best option given the roof and exterior wall description. You have HD, so the Slimline is the correct dish. You need a pole with a 2" outside diameter (try professional fencing supply or heavy automotive tailpipe). Put the pole in a 2 to 3 foot deep hole with cement and make sure it is absolutely perfectly plumb in all direction vertically. Put it far enough away from your structure that you can move the dish in all directions, I would suggest two feet as a minimum, and make sure the location has line of sight to the necessary satellites. You can use dishpointer.com to check line of sight. Check for 99, 101, 103, 110 and 119 satellites (you may not need 110 and 119).

If you do your own pole mount flatten the bottom or self tap a few long bolts in it so it can't twist in the concrete.

I can get LOS from the part of house with siding (Dish has two dishes there and that is where the cabling junction is there). My question is will installers drill through the brick exterior. The brick is basically a facade. So it is only about 3-4 inches thick. My bigger issue is getting the additional line. I believe the installer can install to the side of the house where the siding is and get LOS. I will know more in a couple of weeks.

When mine was installed, the installer drilled right through my brick exterior with no questions asked.

Thanks Michael! Now I have to figure out where the dish will need to go.

Thanks Michael! Now I have to figure out where the dish will need to go.

Check the DISH masts. The Largest DISH masts are 2" and the DTV Ka/Ku dishes, including the SWM s will fit on them. Use a 1/2 inch wrench & yer done.

On the hole.....the Ironhead may not have the correct drill.

Joe I don't think this will be a huge issue on the additional line because this DMA has a lot, I mean a lot of brick homes. I have never seen so many brick homes. I think I will have the dish installed on the house were the siding exists. Dish Network put their two dish configuration there and a SWMline or slimline can be installed to the house there. I think LOS will not be an issue but who knows? If needed I will suspend my service until winter is over here (I doubt I could get the installer to trench and install a pole in 3 ft of snow right now, maybe in the spring). I am not too worried since I am away from home half the month anyway but I do need my NFL Sunday Ticket in the fall. Thanks again for everyone who responded. I am going to take a picture of my situation where a dish could be installed and ask an opinion of the community this weekend.
