View Full Version : Question about upgrading receivers under E* digital home plan.
Let's say someone is currently subscribing to the Digital home plan and is using 4 model 301's. After a few months they want to change 1 or 2 of the 301's for a 508 or 6000. Does anyone know how that might work out? Anyone done it? Thanks in advance.

You pay for the receivers, no lease available, and you must keep the other ones on for a period of 12 months or suffer a penalty from your retailer and Dish both in which could be several hundred dollars. After the first year then I think you can change it to drop off a few receivers to add a few more in which you would still have to pay for. They change the rules so much so maybe someone can correct me if I am wrong.
For the first year you are correct. The receivers you signed the contract for you are stuck with. After the first year you can return 1 or all with no penalty. After the first year you can buy and connect any DISH Network receivers you want.
Thanks, that's what I thought.

You can still buy what you want within the first year and add them to the existing receivers you have on the account. After the first year you can also take the receivers that you had leased off of the account.
After the 1st year you will probably be given the opportunity to upgrade up to 2 of your 301s to 508s.
You will have to buy an HD box if you want one but you could retire another of the 301s if no longer needed.

I don't think so. I've completed my 1 year and wanted to upgrade the 301 to a 508/501. I called Dish and no such luck, if you want a new 508/501 you go out and pay $299 for one. And I'm one of those customers Charlie want's to make sure to keep, >$100/month and never late.

When I signed up in 2000 for the Digital Dynamite plan I got a 4900 and a 2700. After 6 months I subbed a Dishplayer for the 2700 on my account. There was no additional charge (other than the cost of the receiver) as I substituted the Dishplayer for my primary receiver and moved the 4900 to a secondary receiver. I later added another Dishplayer to the account without deactivating another to get a third TV hooked up. Finally, I added a 721 last year, moved the two Dishplayers to secondary status, and parked the 4900 and 2700 in the closet. The Digital Dynamite plan price protection expires in June 2003, so I will probably be returning them next month once the price goes up.

I've called as well, and it states right on their website in the disclaimer that DHP customers are not eligible for the 501/508 promotion. I don't know why that is, but what can you do.
I guess they feel since we didn't pay for it when we started, we should pay top dollar now.
I know that some DHP subs were allowed a PVR upgrade after the 1st year. But, now that I think of it, they were early DHP subs who didn't have the opportunity to get a PVR initially.

Its probably only one promotion per customer I suppose.
