A number of web sites are carrying screen captures from a "new" build of Windows 7 that appear to show multiple versions of Windows 7 in the same vein as Vista.

In actuality, this same screen has been in earlier versions as well, so it really isn't news, but my sources say that version plans as well as pricing have not been finalized at this point. All beta versions released publicly so far are "Ultimate" which makes sense as you want people testing everything.

I do believe we will see multiple Windows 7 versions, at least 2 for business: the standard business edition and the "enterprise" editon (which the consumer will never see anyway, strictly volume licensing) and I suspect that we will see only one version for home users that will default to a basic mode if installed on a PC that isn't quite up to the task. Ultimate will aslo be available for those who want it all.

That's 4 versions not counting the "crippleware N" versions the idiots of the EU will require.

Pricing is also up in the air.. I can make a lot of arguements for adopting a lower pricing structure and I suspect Microsoft will lower prices particularly for upgraders.. but we will have to wait and see.

Thank you...

There is a build 7025, being used by a very small group and I do not expect it to be relased as a "beta"... next stop Release Candidate.
