I've been using an 18" dish on a tripod for a number of years with my RV. Totally satisfied with the setup, but now, with the newer LCD HD TVs available, I was wondering if it would be easy to convert to the new Slimline 3 dish on a tripod for HD programming. I have the SL 5 at the house and I know it was more involved in aiming. I'm looking for opinions about how difficult the SL3 is to setup. I can hit a sat in less than 5 min now with the 18". I just don't want to spend hours trying to get a SL3 up. All replies appreciated.

Much easier, not much more difficult than what you are used to. It is the same size and weight as the one on your house. You would still center on the 101.
You only have to worry about 3 satellites (99/101/103) vs the 5 with the SL5 (99/101/103/110/119) which tends to make it easier to aim IMO.
99 and 103 are still much pickier since they are the newer Ka technology, but definitely doable and with just the receiver as well ;)

Hard to find a tripod that fits the 2 inch pole, and the two inch "actual" pole, itself.
My friend sell this adapter on eBay, with which you can use a standard Radio Shack tripod and 1-5/8" actual fence post.

Its not TOO bad actually. You use 101 at first, then fine tune to get 99/103.

Thanks guys for all the input. With time on my hands, I like a challange and will try the switch this spring. Additional ideas welcome too.

No experience with the 3 sat LNB, but the Slimline 5 really isn't any big deal. I have a meter that I use, but it can be done without it pretty easily.
