Can I purchase that $1.99 per month equipment warranty through Dish at any time? I have a PVR501 that I've had for over a year now. So far, it has been great -- no problems really -- but I don't want to press my luck. Can I just call Dish and add that to my bill whenever -- even though I am now past the 1-year on the PVR501?

Does it cover all equipment (switches, LNBs, and such) also? Does it cover it even if it was purchased refurbished (my PVR501 was a refurb)?

Thanks!

DISH would love to sell you the extended warranty. You must be covered for 1 Mo. before you can file a claim, it requires a 1 yr. commitment to the $1.99. All DISH branded components are supposed to be covered, labor is not covered. Just give them a call your 501 is going to fail at some time.

I recently did the $1.99 warranty & I had an old 4900. Dish told me it covers anything that has a dish logo. That would include dishes, switches, revievers, ect.

Great -- thanks for the info, guys! I think I'll add in the warranty. I'm not usually a big fan of extended warranties -- but with the PVR501, I think it'll be worth the $24 a year... :-)

Heck -- maybe I'll start hoping for death since it would probably be replaced with a 508! heh.

There is a new warranty available. It is a premium warranyt coverage that includes the labor as well or covers part of it at least. I know someone that had their system struck by lightening and they got a refurbished receiver from the company and they didnt say they had to pay for the receiver and they have had it over a year now.

They pay $4.99 a month and said that all they had to pay was $30 to bring someone out and it covers the whole system even if it gets hit by lightening, anything with the Dish logo on it.

Well, anything that gets hit by lightning I could replace on my own -- so no biggie that that isn't included. I don't need labor covered -- I can do all that myself. I just need the equipment to be replaced if it dies.

And, actually, my homeowner's insurance would already cover damage due to lightning... So I really only need to worry about the thing just dying -- which could be fairly likely with a 501 -- so I'll go with $2 a month to cover that...

I agree John. Go for the $1.99 a month deal. I had the warranty for 8 months and sure enough, my SW64 switch died and Dish sent me a new one for $14.95 shipping and it only took 2 days. See this thread for more info:

I would do the same, unless some do not know how to figure out how to diagnose the problems or to do some of the things that are simple for some of us in the know, but for others do not know much more than how to turn the channels, and if they have problems even doing that (controlling the remote) then you know they will not be able to diagnose what is wrong with they system and what needs replaced.

The $1.99 warranty is good for a lot of people that are quite capable of replacing the hardware themselves.
