I was previously a DirecTV customer (1997 install), moved, had cable for a short while after moving, and now want to go back to DirecTV.
I placed an order last month for an installation that is happening this weekend.
The previous owners of the home had DirecTV, and had all the in wall wiring done when the house was built (RG 6 cable to a jack plate that inlucdes a phone jack in 7 locations). This is great, but they did not take into account the potential for dual tuner DVRs.
I am getting 1 HD-DVR and 1 HD reciever, so from reading here, it sounds like that is 3 tuners, and the HD-DVR will need 2 cables? Where I will have the HD-DVR has no easy way to get more cables to it, below ground finished basement, finished all around. I am pretty good with fishing, but this would require cuts into several walls and celing. Can't come straight in from outside either, unless I want the jack 7.5 feet off the floor.
This would be a new install (haven't had DirecTV for the past few years), was wondering if this sort of install is getting SWM. I noticed that SWM is not listed on my order. Just wondering how likely this is, if it is unlikely I will probably have to just use one tuner, or perhaps start cutting and fishing to get more wires to the HD-DVR location.
It looks like when the cable was installed they took the multiswitch, and replaced it with their own splitter, but seems that the rest of the previous DirecTV install wiring is untouched.
