I have 2 installers here telling me that I don't need a signal from 99c because no programming comes from there. True or not? What programming comes from that sat. 99c?

Yes you do. 99C and 103C is where the MPEG4 HD channels are.

Are you sure they didn't say 99s?

absolutely sure. I questioned them. But they were adamant that there was no programming coming from 99c. This is a reinstall on a pole. I callled
directv because signals on 99c were 40s at best, and 103c 70s on average. I was losing picture every time it clouded up.

Are they fixing it for you? I would make sure 99c and 103c are in the high 80's to 90's before they leave.

Thanks for the advice. I will make sure my signals are high before I sigh anything.
They are here right now taking the dish off the roof and putting it on a pole in the backyard. The first installer refused to put it on a pole and would only install on the roof. I called Directv while he waited and they talked to him, and then the told me a roof install was the only option. I have been really unhappy with it on the roof. We get winds around 25-30 mph all the time. I was afraid thedish was going to take my roof off.

I think some of these installers are just knuckle heads about 99c.

My friends installer that I was supervising said the exact same thing over and over. I just finally said, ok whatever, and had him tweak in 103c (which gave 99c decently as well).

The same installer also said 99s was not needed, just 103s...even though in our DMA 99s is where the HD Locals come from

okay, they are all done. Readings on 99c are all in the 80s and 90s. The lowest transponder is 87 highest is 93.

103c the lowest is 88 and the highest is 95.

The pole mount looks good. Very good job by these 2 techs. Tipped them what I had on me (just $30-wasn't planning for 2 techs). and gave them lots of praise for a job well done.

Very nice, sounds like good signal strengths.

Now go enjoy some TV ;)

Glad to hear you are up and running. :)

Since the new install, I am getting some readings on 99s and 103s. Before there were only zeroes on the spot beams. I am getting 68-70 on 99s transponders 16 and 20. On 103s I am getting 70 on transponder 4 and 60 on transponder 6. We don't get locals HD or SD from Directv, so I have no idea what locals are being broadcast. Just really shows what a good install can do.

Those strange transponder readings are from other areas. They are not important. What MAY be important is when leave reappear on the trees and your signal changes.

Hope not.

Report back if I am right.
