View Full Version : Wind Making Satelite Loose signal?

We had 50 to 60 mile per hour winds over the weekend and the satelite kept loosing signal(it was not raining just windy when it was cutting out). Everthing is fine now that the storms have passed but should I go up on the roof and see if something needs tightened? I did not do the original install 3 years ago because it was done for free so I figured why bust my hump. I was stuck watching basic cable all weekend and my wife was mad that she could not watch some of her favorite shows!

Checking the dish can't hurt, but could it have been that the wind was blowing trees into the path of the dish?

Dennis's thought is the easiest to check first. If no trees or such then:
Sounds like it may not be anchored tightly or has finally strated to come loose. If so, the more it jiggles the looser it will get. For Dish 500, skew is important, so I wouldn't expect it to take a lot of sway to throw off the skew.
Is it actually mounted on the roof? If so, it could be a case of ice building up under the mounting plate in the winter and after three years the slow prying has loosened it somewhat.
Another possibility (though unlikely) is static electricity - so is your dish system grounded properly? When the wind blows past the dish, it will generate static electricity...

The most likely cause of the problem is that the wind loosened up the mast from where it was mounted causing it to move more and needs to be tightened down, or a bolt is loose and needs retightened.
Confucious say "Loose dish make man lose signal"
The G-man says: "loose lips: lose ships!" :)
...actually, it's "Loose lips sink ships"
