View Full Version : Linksys WRT300N and Directv HD DVR

Hello:
I am looking for any help I can possibly receive. I have a Linksys WRT300N (Firmware Version: v1.51.2) and I am attermpting to connect my HD DVR to it by cable (LAN cable).

I have tried several options and long story short, I am unable to connect to the internet. I get "OK" on the network connection but end up with error code 22 and no internet connection.

Let me kno wwhat you need to know and I will provide as much info as possible. Would really like to get this to work without having to purchase a wirless adapter.

So far:
I am in Port 1 on the DVR (the top port)
198.1262.1.9
255.255.255.0
198.162.1.1
198.162.1.1

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Where are you getting those IP addresses from, they don't look right since since that netblock (198.168.1) belongs to East Kootenay Community College. Are you using static or DHCP, if DHCP is that what you have your local LAN set up for on the Linksys's DHCP server?

192.168.1.9
255.255.255.0
192.168.1.1
192.168.1.1

The Linksys is set up for dhcp with the range from 100-149 reserved
(192.168.1.100 - 149)

It looks like then that the Linksys is saying it's your DNS server, maybe try changing it to use a real DNS server external to the Linksys to see if that helps.

Where do I find a real DNS server please? Where do I look to get that info? I have done an ipconfig /all and used that DNS info with no luck (it actually shows me three addresses)

68.87.73.242
68.87.71.226
68.87.64.196

I I enter any of those addresses in on the setup page I get a yellow triangle with an exclamation point inside of it.

Just not sure where to locate a valid external DNS server which will be accepted by the DVR.

You can try:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

which are OpenDNS servers to see if that helps.

After that sorry out of ideas.

What happens if you use DHCP on the HR20 instead of assigning a specific IP?

have you tried to "restore defaults" on the hr2x, and re-running the setup.

Um, not sure how to set DHCP on HR20...I tried leaving the IP blank fo rthe router to assign and it won't let me do that. Sorry if I am missing something simple here.

Just for fun try putting the ethernet cable in port #2. I've seen cases where sometimes port #2 will work when port #1 doesn't. Put the cable in port #2, then reset your network settings to defaults, then connect now. See what happens.

Bad CAT5 cable....you have got to be kidding me! It worked on my laptop when I tested it, and no wit does not...nice.

Sure, it worked on the laptop, but that was before the dog chewed on it. More seriously, I have a standard DHCP connection to a LinkSys router, and the router does its thing -- assigns an I P address, etc. Everything seems to work OK with no fussing.
