E* has had a great run with their stock price so this is most likely just some profit taking...although it looks like there is a lot more upside for DISH stock.

ECHOSTAR COMMUNICATIONS CORP. (DISH): EchoStar Communications Corp. Senior Vice President Michael Kelly sold 100,000 shares of the company's Class A common stock Friday. Kelly sold the shares for $33.07 and $33.08 each. After the transactions, he directly owned 307,010 Class A common shares.

A bit of history on Kelly: Kelly was the founder of Kelly Broadcasting, the largest distributor of foreign language programming in the industry. Kelly Broadcasting was purchased by Echostar a couple of years ago, making Echostar the largest distributor of foreign language programming. Echostar beat DirecTv to the punch on the purchase of Kelly, as Kelly was in the process of negotiating distribution rights to foreign programming with DirecTv when Echostar made it's purchase offer. Kelly sold his company to Echostar in exchange for cash and stock in Echostar. It appears that this is probably some of the stock that he sold.

While "insider trading" carrys a bit of stigma, it's really not that illegal provided that certain legal conditions are met. Some of the companies do allow the purchase and sale of company stock, and it's not uncommon for a CEO to cash in on stock to pay for a kid's tuition or pay for some bills.

What gets you into trouble is when you trade based upon information that is not "generally known to the public". So, if you buy or sell some stock at the company you work for based upon word on the trade papers, thats OK. If you trade based upon confidential information, then it's insider trading. And, yes, some doctors and psycs have gone to prison because of "insider trading" because they heard some information from their patients that is not generally known.
